Not an emergency, but I noticed that Bebe, military macaw has a bit of puffiness on the skin right where the beak opens up. One side looks fine, the other side is puffy. She is acting normal, eating, playing, poop looks normal, etc. Called our vet and she is out until next Monday. We have an appointment for next Monday. But I wanted to ask if anyone has ever had this problem. Tried taking a few pictures, but cannot post due to I think older computer.
I know I haven't been posting much. I have been insanely busy!!!!!!! Tried to check in a few times a week to keep up. Thanks for the help.

Most likely Bebe just bruised it a bit playing and chewing or possibly like a mosquito bite. If you see redness, additional swelling or she is picking at it or rubbing the area frequently then there might be a problem that the Vet would need to be involved.

Linus gives himself black eyes several times a year from his rough play with his toys. Sometimes they hit back.

That could be it, but it sure is puffy. Her weight is also fine. I will still keep the appointment. If anything, Bebe can get her wings and toenails clipped and bite the vet. Unfortunately she is very aggressive!!!
Thanks.

I hope it's nothing, but the trip to the vet can be so reassuring for us!

I know exactly what you are describing as B&G Peggy Sue gets them all the time on one side. Chances are good that Bebe either has just a little bit of overgrowth of the lower mandible, causing overlapping and irritation while biting down, or he accidentally injured himself while biting down on something that caused irritation in the corner of his mouth. It will look somewhat red and puffy and takes longer to heal based on the location of the ouchie but should get better on its own. I would worry only if it becomes even more inflammed or the redness spreads to other parts of the facial patch. Take care!

We checked out Bebe's (military macaw) puffiness and scab today. I was still a bit worried since it had been over a week. You were correct about the injury. Bebe must have poked herself. The vet said it is still healing, not infected and felt Bebe looked good.
Sorry I haven't been around. Hopefully life will start slowing down in a couple weeks. Thanks again for your help.
