Haven't you found that most birds prefer one over the other? My two cockatoos (LSC and E2) will cuddle with Carl, but given a choice, or when they get scared, they come running to me.

Bonnie,

How did Chicken do with the trip out, or did you not bring him along this time?

Evelyn,

Funny story.... My first bird Amy, a little tiel, is definately a momma's boy. Only wants love from me, and will go to Papa only if I've been traveling for a couple days... BUT, when he is frightened he runs for my hubby and hides up against his neck pretending to be hidden.....

He did great! Went to bed really early(for him) last night and woke me up really early this morning and now he's perched on a playgym watching me type! He's such a good bird.

Julie -

That is funny! Maybe he knows which side his bread is buttered on.

My husband (now retired) used to work on the railroad, and he traveled a lot during the week. While he was gone one time, I brought home a Schnauzer somebody had brought into the vet to be euthanized (she had had two operations for bladder stones and they didn't want to spend any more money on her. Arrgh!)

I told Carl on the phone that I had her so he could get made and get over it before he got home. He was still mad when he got home, but no sooner had he come in the front door than Missy went over to him and pressed against his leg; and, of course, she melted his heart. She never did that again.

Smart dog! And smart tiel!

Gotta love those Schnauzers, my grandmother has always had them. They will nip and bite at everyone, but the grand daughters. They are difficult to walk because they are so protective, but the second one of us girls came over they would be as sweet as little puppies.... Animals have such a keen aware-ness!!!!

Those schnauzers are so emotional, when they are separated from their people & then see them again the singing & yodeling is impressive.

So... who's going home with you?
What does Chicken think of all the birds around? I can't wait to meet Chicken in July. I'll bet you are having tons of fun!

Chicken is going home with me... and he's coming back in July! He's been really quiet except for when Goofy sounds off, then he sounds off too. He seems tired still... but it is the afternoon. I really love Goofy and she loves me back, but it's not just me living in our house so...

Carl grew to love Missy so much that when she finally passed away, he suggested a Schnauzer puppy, which we got. He wanted to be the one to take her outside.

Have you ever heard the Schnauzer joke?

I think poor Bonnie is going to be left waiting for her perfect bird. Though I guess it's best to be patient and let good things come to you in time.

Didn't know that.

Ok, here goes. Carl tells this as though it's a true story, and usually has the listener believing it until the last line.

According to Carl, I have a dog show coming up with Patty (our Schnauzer puppy). Schnauzers are a lot of trouble to show. You have to hand-strip their coats. It takes about 6 weeks to get the coat in condition for the show, and then it only lasts about 6 weeks, and you have to start all over again. That part is true.

So Carl says, instead of hand-stripping, why don't you try using something like Nair (hair remover). So I go to the drug store and ask for some Nair. The druggist gets it for me and says, "Don't put anything else on your underarms for a day or so after yor use this because it will irritate them." I said, "I'm not going to use it on my underarms."

So the druggist says, "Well, don't use anything on your legs for a couple of days after using this because it will irritate your legs." I said, "I'm not going to use it on my legs."

The druggist looks at me and asks, "Well what are you going to use it on?", and I answer, "My Schnauzer."

The druggist says, "Well, don't ride your Honda for a few days."

That's the real reason Carl likes Schnauzers--so he can tell that joke.

Yep! That is why we had Schnauzers!

He's been trying to think of a stgory that goes with Standard Poodles and Amrican Pit Bull Terriers, but hasn't been able to so far.

He's got a dirty mind, so I'm just waiting for him to come up with something for cockatoos.
