Rico and Goofy are Sidney's siblings and our newest fosters. Rico is a Magellan Conure - a distant cousin to the green cheek conure but quite rare in today's pet industry. They look very similar to the slender billed conure. Rico is very personable, chatty and loves everyone. He is well socialized and seems to adapt to just about anything. I have read that Magellan's, like green cheeks, are a bit less loud than most other conures. He is much bigger than a green cheek and even bigger than a sun conure...about the size of a pionus only more stalky. I love his face, which seems to say "budgie" to me for some reason. This bird will really bless some very lucky new birdy parront.

Goofy is an umbrella cockatoo, I am thinking female (are females the ones with the really light brown eyes?) She is a nice bird but doesn't care for me too much. She has been flirting with Andy all night though and keeps telling him that she loves him. Boy is she a chatterbox and really uses her talking voice. We will have to be careful with her as she is a panter and has quite the raging hormones. Her feathers are really ratty and it looks like she has mutilated some of them, but she might really improve with a good soaking. We'll give it a try after she settles in tomorrow. Over all she is a very nice little bird.

Here is Sydney on top of the cage her owners kept her in. We moved Sydney to a new cage and are going to put Rico the conure in it instead. He's going to have a blast in his new castle.

Anna -

As you know, U2s are my favorite parrots.

You are right--the females have the brown eyes, while the males have very dark eyes and you can't see their pupils.

I am having such a hard time not calling Don about his U2 baby. But I'd have to trade hubby in.

I hear you. I try not to read or think about the baby. It is even worse once you have one of Don's babies! No one to trade in here and let me tell you I have been very tempted to call Don and to send her. Gads, even have a name picked out...now that is bad. But I can handle it...I just go and hug Tony and spend time with him. And then there is Puff who is a little cutie as well. She hears Nadia and I think they both want to meet. Soon....

U2's do take a bit more attention as they enjoy being with their people. Rosies tend to be a bit more independant although tony likes nothing better than to be with me. Fait (lsc) plays well on her own. TC goffin, he is a bit needy and needs that time with me. then there are other times he wants with me (he is flighted) and I have to tell him to go back to his playstand.

During hurrican katrina I took in 4 birds for someone. ONe of the birds was an U2. It is then that I thought I would love a U2. Living close to my neighbors though I don't want to risk one being noisy as that could really ruin neighborly love. The macaws do make noise but not the same quality. The neighbors on either side of me have swimming pools. In the summer, sitting around the pool and birds talking or calling makes them feel like they are in paradise. Several neighbors grow banana trees....the birds and I being the beneficiary of the fruit!

Gotta go, Tony is calling.

I don't know what Don would think about it. What would he do with a hubby? Altho Carl is an exceptional one. He does the grocery shopping and the cooking (doesn't clean though, and doesn't help with birds, altho he will feed them if I am out of town).
