Andy and I are going to pick up another green wing macaw this afternoon. Her name is Sydney and she is 16 years old. A few weeks ago she very suddenly decided to pluck her entire chest bare, all at once, after never having any problems in the past. Sydney's current owner was already arranging to sell the two other birds in the household (A conure and a cockatoo) that belonged to her daughters, and I think the plucking encouraged her to give up her own bird as well. I just can't imagine having birds for so long and then deciding to give them up, but she lives in a very small house and I also know what the volume must be like. Either way, I feel pretty bad for this bird, as her whole world is about to be turned upside down. She has a vet appointment on monday and we'll have some labs drawn to rule out health, though with the bird plucking her whole chest so suddenly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was health related...either that or something really scared the daylights out of her. Maybe husband and wife got into a confrontation? Who knows. Anyway, i'll post pictures when she arrives.
