We put Peggy out in the aviary shortly after Bhodi showed up. About a week later, Bhodi went out into the aviary as well. For a while Peggy and Bhodi got into screaming competitions and just had it out with each other out there. I think after a while they both got tired of hollering and decided it was easier just to be quiet. Peggy seems like she is accepting being near the other birds and is considerably more calm than she has been in almost a year. She has still been a bit crabby toward me, but it feels good to see her enjoying being part of a flock and I have been trying not to force myself on her. I have been bringing her inside to spend time with us during the day though I have noticed that she starts up her nervous behavior when Gabe is around. Maybe she just really doesn't care for kids. That's ok. We can certainly work around it by bringing her in when the kids are napping, after they go to bed and later when they are off at school. I think she will come to enjoy them when they are old enough to move slowly around her and step her up comfidently. So hopefully things continue to go well with her. We really miss having her in the kitchen, being the center of attention, but we care more for her well being, so this arrangement will have to work as long as she is happy with it.

It sure has been a long haul with her for the last year or so now hasn't it! You tried another macaw buddie, more time here, then there.... Didn't you have her in the bedroom for a while during the day? I'm so glad to hear that she is settling down and becomming the sweet B & G you know and love. How old is Peggy now?

It has been kind of a a crazy year...and yes, we had her in the bedroom for a while. We have been trying everything we could think of. She's 8.

Do you know how long they are in "thier prime" so to speak? If they start feeling the hormones between 4 and 6, how long does it last. Does it get better, or just progressively worse, till they reach a certain age?

I think their "prime" is between 4-6. I have seen a lot of older macaws who seem more calm. I would imagine the first 10 years can be pretty rough but like some other birds many of them settle down some. I'm not expecting any future spring to go exceptionally well.

I want to know who is the Buddy Holly fan that came up with the name Peggy Sue, and she is just like in the song "pretty pretty Peggy Sue"
