I got the call soon after lunch. Mom called Husband at work to call me at work, Harry was on the loose. keeping in mind that Harry & my husband have an escalating competetion as to who is the better engineer in cage security. I rushed home while calling Mom to get the dogs locked up to avoid one problem at least. She was shut in her bedroom to avoid the attentions of a marauding Too. I got home to find Mom in the front yard with her camera, that was scary I thought he had gotten out, Not. Harry was in the house all on his own with only the cats for supervision, the dogs were out back. I opened the back door to find Harry on the edge of the sink and a coffee cup with incriminating beak marks. There were no cats in sight & I got the baby bird greeting. Checked the Cockatiel cage & contents for damage & found none. Then he was happily escorted back to his incarceration chamber and out of desperation used a coat hanger to temporarily secure the cage. Adventure over, back to work.http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa264/Firefly_mom/P1000173.jpg:rofl:

OMG! he didn't eat any did he??!!! Oh Harry! aside from that being dangerous to him, I'm assuming he's ok since you didn't post of an emergency vet visit.
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: :toofunny: :hyst:
Harry, thanks for the laugh this morning

I gently felt his crop & counted the little pieces all over the floor. No apparent problems but I am watching him carefully. I don't think ceramic is a normal part of the diet, I don't recommend it. His appetite is undiminished this morning. When I covered him at his bedtime last night he said "Wake up Harry". When uncovered this morning he said "Love you good boy Harry". We can only hope.

Oh, Harry, what a scare you gave all of us. So very glad to hear you got "home" safe, and you did not accidentally eat some of the cup. I guess at least it was not full of soap suds sitting in the sink, right?
Those tooz with thier keen mind for mechanics just get themselves into too much trouble! Thanks for the picture, too funny.... Man, I guess I'm really spoiled having a too that is so small in comparison!

Fortunately there was no soap or detergent but it was my Moms favorite cup. After seeing the damage they can do to a home or themselves we were very lucky indeed. Maybe he is a "Good boy Harry" after all.

Tooz, gotta love em! They sure do brighten up our lives....
So mom is scared of Harry too? I've had my mom spoiling my Duch with peanuts to make friends, since mom is terrified of her. Duch even stepped up for her the other day, to then fly to her cage....

Jill,
I don't want to worry you - just to share my experience. If an Umbie can break it apart - then assume he has swallowed some of it. You cannot assume otherwise.
Could that be a problem to Harry? We don't know for sure. Particles of that cup would be sharp and could cause a problem any where along the digestive tract... from crop, intestines, and gizzard.
Fortunately the gizzard is a very thick walled muscle that can take a lot of abuse.
Watch his poop very closely for any signs of blood.
If he were my bird - I would call my vet. Since it is not metal, I don't think an X-ray would show any thing or not. But I would ask the vet for advice.
Remember - most crockware and the such is made in China and is full of lead in its paint and glazing. Just turn the cup over and look on the bottom - it most likely will say "Made in China".

Oh, crap! :mad:
I just switched from stainless steel to crockery because the birds were pulling the stainless steel bowls out of their racks, and the crockery is too heavy for them to do that.
Oh, double crap! :mad::mad:

Maybe your crocks are thicker tougher material, we have some crocks for a few of the Macaws at the sanctuary & they haven't done them any damage. I wonder if Harry just banged it repeatedly on the sink or counter top? Just fooled me & looks like beak marks. Darn Liens:alien::alien::alien:

Theres a good chance I may glide through there for a day or two, my hubby is working there. I just have to find a very patient house sitter 4 birds 4 dogs kinda puts some people off. The lady that used to do it for me is afraid of Cassie and AngelBaby she was here yesterday and I let her hold AngelBaby, she was ready to give her up after about 1 minute. She says their beaks are too big, hmm wonder if she has ever seen a macaw up close and personal LOL

OH MY! Harry, what did you get into while I was out of town? You don't really think Harry broke that glass by biting it, do you? Something thinner but WOW, if he bit chunks off he is really a determind little guy. I know their beaks are strong but I couldn't imagine them breaking off chunks of a cup like that. Maybe he did bang it on the counter. What a nutty bird!!! Those toos...always getting into trouble.

Anna,
What Harry did does not surprise me at all. Baby cracks Brazil nuts with ease. She also has cracked pieces off the hard acrylic toys... that is why she ONLY gets wood to chew on.
