I know this is the best place to ask this question...
Hubby has been reading about lead in cages, and has told me to start looking and pricing SS cages for our birds. :yeah:
We are starting with our small birds, the conures, and I'm not liking what I'm seeing! I am finding very few small cages & they are $1000. Have any of you seen any SS cages for the smaller guys? Where would be the best places to look? I did a google, but am seeing mostly large cages.

I had been looking at cages for a couple of weeks, never did see any SS ones for the little birdies.

Kings cages -- SS... best on the market.
Also their European powder coated line has been privately tested to be free of lead and zinc.
PM me for further info.

It seems like SS is going to be super expensive, no matter where you go!

Im waiting on a smaller SS cage from Kings (should be here in March), but my parents bought this beauty from them. This is the 306, and we are waiting on a 207 in SS.
I wish I could go SS for my brds but I just couldnt do it yet. I did the second best thing and bought the Euro line and they are super nice too. Perri (he belongs to my parents... specifically he owns my dad, LOL) had developed a habit of rubbing his beak across the bars of his cage and had worn grooves into it. I suggested getting him a stainless steel cage so it wouldnt have "texture" to abrade his beak. We havent put a lot of stuff into it yet - he's one of those Greys that needs new additions to be very slow. We're up to 5 toys so far.
They loved his cage so much they asked me to order one for their Meyers Parrot. It is fun spending someone else's money :D

Jill, Ain't that wonderful. And you told me your parent's Kings SS cage passed the magnet test, which means they are in fact made of High quality medical grade SS.
Birdie has been wanting a SS cage for her smaller birds but is having a difficult time finding one. I am glad to hear that Kings is coming out with a SS line for smaller birds.
Here is a SS cage Birdie found on the net on Doctors Foster and Smith website...
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5059+10346+17990&pcatid=17990
I did some checking and found this "brushed" SS cage advertised on Dr Foster and Smith website is in fact an A&E cage.
http://www.bird-cage.com/ae-ss-kasterra-play-top.htm
And most of you know about the A&E scum bags.
In the past, I have contacted Drs Foster and Smith telling them of the lead and zinc toxins in A&E powder coated cages and I recommended that they should no longer carry that line. But --- they only care about making a buck and don't give a care about the safety of our birds. They still carry the toxic A&E cages - but under a different brand name... http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5059+10346+16503&pcatid=16503
I have become so jaded and really ticked at the ones who portray themselves as the saviors of our birds when in fact they only care about the almighty buck.

I'm still looking, it looks like Dr F & S is out.
I will have to show hubby what is available, and have him read more about the "bad guys" I'm leaning towards the kings, I just have to figure out which cage. I still have some time to look, it will most likely be summer before our budget can handle 2 new cages.

Jill,
that is just a beautiful cage, and I know how picky greys can be!!!! Did Perry always have a cage that was open on the top? I have been wanting to get Duch a new cage, but am so scared that since she is used to a "covered" top due to her play top, that she will flip out due to the chage to a dome top... Those pesky greys that are so SLOW to accept changes!

I am thinking I'm not liking the dome top cages as much as I thought I would. Sure, they give more room in the cage, but Stella seems to prefer to play ontop of the other birds cages {which are flat tops} rather than her own. The rest of my flock stay put on the tops of their cages. I don't know if they really make that big of a difference, but Stella's next cage will be a flat top.
If Duch plays ontop, I wouldn't get her a dome. JMO

Brenda, I like the flat top better than the dome top also. I can better hang toys in a flat top... where as the dome top does not allow for hanging toys too well. I did like the flat top design of the A&E cage - but lead in the paint - you know the story.

Julie, I've looked at those, and even considered one. My problem is I don't know which bird would get the top or which would do better on the bottom. That's why I haven't looked more into them.
And you're just tempting me to get another bird by showing me the triple aren't you??:haha:

I would not dare.... We all have enough temptation here on HB... I showed them to you mostly because we like our double so easy to clean. The tripple is just wider, although I must admit, it is the heaviest cage we own, but SUPER easy to clean... Has anyone tested these Aivian Adventures. I thought they were MFG here in CA

Avian Adventures... I really can't remember where they are made. China comes to mind - but I am not sure. There is NO major cage manufacturer left in the US... China has seen to that.
Now I remember - Malaysa... Nope that's not it. It's someplace near there. They used to be made in Mexico but not any more. Avian Adventures was recently bought out by Midwest Homes for Pets. Carol Frank was the owner of Avian Adventures. Midwest cages are made in China.
Cal cages used to be made in Calif - but have been made in Mexico for the last 3 years. They are going out of business soon.
I only trust high quality SS or powder coated cages made in the European Union... tougher standards than here in the US.
I don't know of any test results for Avian Adventures... I sure would like to know what they test at.
