I've had a lot of trouble with this one. I had wanted to microchip Chicken and remove the band. However, after researching the chip, I've learned that sometimes it travels under the skin. Now, in a dog or cat or cow that wouldn't be a big deal, but with a bird? I'm just kind of concerned about what that would tear up internally. Also, not much is known about the chip for the long term. A dog lives about 20 years or so. Our birds live three times that long. It's enough information, or lack of information, for me to decide against it.

Here's a link to an old thread. It is about legbands and microchipping. You may find it helpful.

Okay thanks I do believe you have helped me to decide against it too. You just hear so many stories of birds getting out of the house I would hate to loose any one of mine.

Chrissie -
I intended to microchip mine, but our local bird vet recommended against it, especially for my LSC, because she is so little. He said it stresses the bird. This vet likes making money, so if he was afraid of it, then so am I.

I am teaching my CAG to say, "My name is Tamar. My phone number is:
I want her to also say, "My address is : ," but I'm afraid that all three of those phrases are too much to expect her to say at once, so we are working on only the first two right now. She has the name part, but she doesn't understand numbers have to be in a certain order.

That is such a good idea. I will try to teach my TAG the same thing.

I know I won't be doing it for sure, if a vet is against it then I am for sure.

I'd like to claim it for my idea, but I read it in a news story about a lost parrot who was able to say his address, and that is how he ws returned to his owner.
