Sorry for the thread heading - but this has to be reminded from time to time.

I was lurking about on other boards and came across a bird that most likely is dying or possibly now dead because of products used on it.

Remember --- commercial enterprises are usually out to make a buck and don't give a care about your bird.

Before you use anything on your bird - post what you intend to use before you buy it or use it - to get input from others.

Here are some of the products that can kill your bird...

Its really sad that some uniformed people will actually buy that stuff, there should be a warning on the label like "consult a vet before using this product".

I know for a fact that if I didn't have the people I've met I wouldn't have Chicken. They got me through the stage after the honeymoon stage. I'm SO glad they have been here for me. I would have given up one of the best things in my life just because I didn't know how to deal with him.

It's more like how long does it last with the bird when you bring it home. Chicken is an 8year old rehome. With most birds, there is a period of adjustment where they seem to be on their best behavior. It's kind of their time to get use to their new home. After they find their place, they get louder and bossier. Chicken's transition wasn't too bad, but he did a lot of screaming and a bit of biting that Larry and Anna really helped me through.

Cassie is approx 9 yr old rehome that I have known for 7 yrs she has always been a very sweet bird, I hope she stays that way. She gets a little loud sometimes, but thats okay. 3 birds soon to be 4 making a racket and 4 dogs barking, think I need to invest in some good earplugs LOL

I've been advising against those things for a long time. It's great to have all the links in one post.

Thanks, Larry, baby and Me (or is it you)

I want to know what would posess someone to put something like that on a bird! I mean, Seriously! It burns my nose and doesn't wash off very well... I wouldn't even CONSIDER puting it on Chicken!

I wouldn't put the jar in the same room as my birds.

IIt's sad to know that some people will buy these products thinking they are doing a good thing. What's up with the bitter apple? Birds don't even have enough taste buds to be detered by bitter taste, do they?...not to mention the alcohol content.

And the wierd thing about it is... parrots prefer spicy hot and bitter tastes.

I will tell you... during my quest in the lead in cage paint mess - I have contacted dozens upon dozens of importers, distributors, retailers, authors, and so-called avian authorities including well known vets ---- I have found most don't care about your bird -- they want to make a buck.

And that is not something I pulled off the top of my head --- I can back it all up and name names if any one cares for me to do so.
