I don't think anyone said to not allow him on your shoulder if he is not biting. If he is biting, then it's not good. If he is not biting then it is ok. No matter what we say if you like him on your shoulder then it is ok for you. We just don't want you to get hurt.

I don't let my U2 on my shoulder because it makes him taller than me and he feels dominant. Also, toos are known to strike without warning and that is a good way to lose an eye. When a bird of any size is on your shoulder and decides not to come down and you try to force him, there is a good chance you'll be bitten in the face. Different birds have different temperaments and some are fine on the shoulder, bit it's just safer not to have them there.

I agree Patty, my sun conure bit my grandaughter in the face once, he was on her shoulder and I know for a fact she did nothing to him to make him bite I was standing right next to them. He didnt break the skin but it sure scared me, it was very close to her eye my grandaughter was only six at the time.

Ahmad,
Welcome to our HappyBirdy family. We are all experienced bird owners. I don't have an Indian Ringneck - but the research I have done reveals that they are delightful parakeets. Smart - playful - and loyal to their owners. I see that you are from Asyut, Egypt. That is a very old city. Indian ringnecks are common in your part of the world. There are several subspecies - one of which is the African subspecies. So - you should have many of the Indian ringnecks in the wild where you live.
Many here have given you good advice. You can keep a bird on your shoulder - but you do take a risk of getting bit in the face. The choice is yours. I don't think there is as much a language barrier but you are not taking sound advice. Again - the choice is yours.
There is a forum on the Internet that is specific to Indian Ringnecks. I think you will find the information there from those members interesting to you. There is one person that has posted similar questions as you have here. Go to this link to meet him...

One saying is your house your rules. If you wish him on your shoulder that is fine. Because we have people new to birds we also need to educate so that when making a decision it is an educated one. Several people have cockatoos and their bite can be damaging as the shape of their beak is different than some of the other birds.
IRN can be nippy birds especially if not routinely handled. If you would like him to fly, mate, be on your shoulder that is your choice. Most people are looking for directions. You seem to have that under control so not much to offer you. You seem to have a great relationship with your bird and I am glad for you.

Patty - that's cute.
A troll is a person who has nothing better to do than go to talk boards and post a seemingly simple question and then when answers are given - they fake they don't understand - they play one member against the other - they argue - they just plain mess with your head.
They do this for kicks. -- Why??? It's the same reason creeps create viruses --- because they can.:mad::mad::mad:

That was Ahmad's whole purpose to get people ticked off. That fellow is a bit sick in the head.
I bet he is surprised that I traced him to his home town in Egypt. I can even find out where he lives in Asyut, Egypt if I must.
If you click the link I provided you will see he did the same thing and typed the same way with >>>>> and saying dear, and god and ...
Here is info on him...
Email addy... dr_budgie@yahoo.com
Screen name on other boards... dr.roseicollis
IP address ... 41.235.4.159
Also goes by .... dentistfox
Here is a pic of him... http://s205.photobucket.com/albums/bb116/dentistfox/?action=view¤t=6464564.jpg
He claims he is studying to be a dentist.
Moral of the story is --- if you don't want people to know about you on the Internet - don't be so bold to put your info there.
This tracking method is the one that I used to find the real Rua Holland (Karetai) and other info about Tony Evans aka Jillian Karetai. It took me a year to discover the tricks - but now I can do it fairly quickly. It took me only a half hour to track down Ahmad The Troll.
Hmmm???

Thanks for the info. I have to say, though, if I were a troll I could think of far more sensitive issues to approach. Like, for instance...(only kidding) lol
