It is not a safe place to allow any bird with a strong or sharp beak to stay on your shoulder. They can reach your face & there is the potential to have your eyes damaged or your lip or nose badly injured if the bird decides to bite. This has happened many times to many people so we recommend that your bird not remain on your shoulder. It will take some training to get your bird to remain on your hand or arm instead. What is an IRN I do like the name Koke. Please let us know more about your bird so we know how to assist your training of Koke.

IRN=Indian Ringneck maybe?
You shouldn't let an aggressive bird sit on your shoulder, as me&too pointed out, it leaves you open to facial injury.
I have a bird that I would never let on my shoulder, and one that climbs up there with no problems all the time...however, you have to make sure that your bird is not aggressive at all...
Some people won't let a bird on their shoulders EVER...so the decision is yours, but in this case, I wouldn't recommend it.

First, welcome to HappyBirdy. We hope you will visit and post often. We love to see photos of your birds and hear about them.
Second, those who recommend against letting a bird sit on your shoulder are absolutely correct. My parrot "mentor" used to say there is a reason why pirates have patches over their eyes (they let their parrots sit on their shoulders). She also said that if you let them on your shoulder, it should be a privilege and not a right.
I like having my parrots sit on my shoulder (altho I have had to be very quick at times to avoid a peck on the face). I let them up there when I want them there.
As far as biting when you want them to get down, they have to learn not to do that. Others on the board will have better suggestions about how you do that. One thing you could try is to hold a favorite treat in his cage or over his playstand, but don't give it to him until he steps off you. I have a bird who will do anything for an almond.
I have one bird that sometimes I have to "brush" off. I put my shoulder very close to his cage or playstand, and he will usually step off. He doesn't bite when I try to get him off; her just doesn't want to let go.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

:welcome:to Happybirdy..I don't allow my M2 on my shoulder unless he is taking a shower..or he flys there out of fear..sometimes I just turn on the shower & allow the room to steam up..he sits on my shoulder & plays with my hair..when the mirror steams he disappears & we play..where is the Bambam:confused: I think some birds feel safe on the shoulder; but sometimes I feel they do this to protect us..maybe a piece of jewelry will get their attention..for whatever reason I wouldn't allow the bird on the shoulder unless you have gained the trust..you already have been given excellent advice from the posts prior to mine..
:rofl::dancered::yeah::psit back & enjoy...Happybirdy..:dancingg:we have lots of fun here..Freida

Indian ringnecks are territorial birds and it sounds like Koke has claimed your shoulder as Koke's place. Having Koke sit on your shoulder is bad because he thinks your shoulder belongs to Koke, not to you which is why he bites. Do not let Koke sit there if Koke wants to bite. Let him sit on your hand instead or on a perch. If Koke keeps sitting on your shoulder, Koke may start biting harder and harder. Also, do not tell Koke anything when he bites. Just ignore it and make him think you did not notice the bite.

Irn I would not let him if you have gotten him to the point he is alright not being there, you will undo all the good work you have done. Besides its easier to play with him if he is not on your shoulder, I am trying to teach my bird to stay off my shoulder. She seems to be getting the message I hope. :smiles:

It should be alright to pet his head most birds enjoy having their feathers worked with once they understand you mean them no harm. Does Koke allow you to stroke or pet him? Some birds do not like hands.
