I think that aside from making Bhodi feel comfortable in his environment (he seems to like the aviary the best at this point) it is my responsibility to do everything possible to get Bhodi thinking in a non-screaming pattern. He has been much more quiet out in the aviary than he was in the house but is still screaming more than is normal for a too. After bringing Bhodi in the house for some one on one, he screams for quite a while once back in in his cage. Benny Boy has this issue as well and I have not yet come up with a way to break them of this...so any suggestions are welcome.
In my opinion, screaming when someone leaves the room is low on the priority of things to address unless the screaming does not stop after 5 or 10 minutes. I have noticed that when Bhodi is inside, he attempts to notify us that he is about to start screaming by squatting low to the ground, pulling his wings away from his body and quickly swaying from side to side. I imagine what Bhodi is thinking and feeling goes something like "Come and get me right this second or I will scream bloody murder!" I have decided to act on this signal and rescue Bhodi from wherever he may be perched, or put him back in his cage if he starts this while I am holding him. My logic says that if we can prevent Bhodi from screaming by responding to his body language, thereby making him feel understood, he may eventually realize that there is no longer a need to scream. Thoughts, comments, suggestions?
