Andy and I got up this morning, packed up the kids and drove about an hour south of Rio Rancho to take Uriel to his new home. What a delightful eperience. Their current macaw, a military, was in beautiful feather and so very well behaved. Uriel had his very own play area prepared and took right to it without a second thought. It turns out that Uriel's new family also has 16 horses, some cows, chickens, rabbits, and dogs. Every animal looked well cared for and seemed very happy. The whole family participates in caring for their animals and the farm also has a few people who are hired help to care for the horses. Uriel was bestowed the prized spot in the dinning room where he could interact with the whole family. Their other macaw was so relaxed that he seemed to hardly notice Uriel. We took Gabe outside while their girls looked after Katie, and we let him pet the horses and look at the cows and chickens. He got to feed the horses some carrots and apples and seemed to have a great time. After a while, Uriel's new mommy brought him outside and let him check out the outdoor enclosure used for macaw playtime during the summer months. Uriel loved it so much that he didn't want to go back inside! We received promises of updates and pictures, and his new mom told us that she would be hurt if we didn't come to visit at least every once in a while! We could not have been more pleased with the way they love their animals and I feel much better about having to say goodbye. I got a phone call a few days about picking up an older conure. As it turns out the conure lived 2 streets away from where we placed Uriel, so a new adventure has already begun.

Anna, you are an amazing person to take care of so many birds, and also your own children. There should only be more people like you in this world. Keep up the good work!

Anna,

I'm so happy to hear that your trip went well, and that Uriel took to his new "diggs" so quickly. Sounds like an ideal place to be if you are a macaw!

What a great thing you did. It sounds like he will be very well cared for. And so now you are off to help a conure, you are right, it is an adventure. I have a 16 year old sun who is a rehome, many times over. He is just a doll and I wouldn't trade him for anything. Have fun.
