Well, it seems like just as soon as one goes another is here. Zazu, a 1 year old pacific parrotlet, was surrendered to us this morning. He is one of th nicest parrotlets I have ever met and seems to love everyone. :) It seems like his previous owner really loved him and gave him up because she works too many hours. The bird belonged to her daughter and was given to the family as a gift last year. Here is proof that giving birds as gifts is not a wise idea, as the daughter has gone off to college and mom is never home. A sad situation but this well adjusted bird will likely have no problems adapting to a new home where he will be loved and spoiled. I've been working on finding the right home for Zazu for abou a month now and have a few possible homes picked out. Zazu will likely make the final call as these guys really have their own ideas about everything! Here's Zazu!

Anna -
Parrotlets are so darned cute because they are so little, but they can pack a mean bite. I have also heard people say they are aggressive.
I've had people tell me they can talk, but I never heard one. Can they talk?

A very good way to look at a parrotlet is as a miniature amazon. They have similar personalities, body language, preferances and looks. I have met some parrotlets (particularly the green rumps) that have been very sweet. I have met others who are small feathered assasins. All of them seem to have an attitude that greatly surpasses their size regardless of their temperament. I'm not sure how many of you know, but we used to have a little green rump parrotlet and he is the only bird in our flock, not including rescues, that we have lost. We only had him for one short year and the illness that he was seemingly born with is still a mystery to us and our vet. Oliver talked up a storm, though he is the only parrotlet I have ever heard talk. He had a wonderful little voice and said "Hi" "Pretty bird" "Step up" and a few other simple things. He loved everyone and would fluff up his head for even a total stranger. My personal experience is that females are a bit more uptight and aggressive than males, but I have handled some males who could pack quite a punch. Oliver was very gentle and did not bite hard when he was displeased with something. Like all brds, it seems to be true that each one is different!

But the Amazon I had was very sweet. I could do just about anything to him or with him and he wouldn't bite me, except once in a great while if he could sneak up on me he would.
Anyway, I'll leave the parrotlets to you. I will keep my cuddly cockatos, and my CAG who thinks she's a cockatoo.

So much for a 1 bird household. Has that rule been eleminated since Emma arrived? I guess now you have some leverage with the wife. She can have Zazu if you can have Bhodi?

Anna - I love your plan. We guys just don't think in such complicated ways... I am a meat and potatoes type of guy. Put me in a car and I will race you down the street. But when it comes to delicate planning - I am a whimp.
Oh by the way... I just love the name Emma. That is what I now call her. She comes to that.
She is now roositing up a tree. I think she might be a banty hen.
I bought her 15 pounds of chicken feed today = $3.75. My kinda bird food bill.

Larry,
you are just too much. You are going to have to go give that ol' hen some lovin' every time you get MBS. In fact, you better go find her right now or you might not last through the evening. :D

I just LOVE parrotlets!
There is a male parrotlet at a local pet store, and he gives me kisses through the bars. Talk about MBS! Lil Stinker! I almost slipped him in my purse and ran out the door!
Good thing you're nowhere near....=)
