...And so am I!
His screaming let up for a while last night and my sanity returned. Today has been a wonderful break. We uncovered Bhodi around 7:30 and no screaming!!! Hurray! He had a few outbursts but nothing major. We decided to put Peggy Sue out in the aviary for now because the two birds were screaming back and forth all day yesterday and both birds are doing much better. Bhodi has been screaming off and on, screaming for about 5 minutes and then stopping for about 5 minutes while on his gym! Not screaming much at all in his cage...only when we first leave the room. I really hope we are on the down side of this issue!!!

Bhodi has made it very clear in the past few days that Andy is not a favored person and lunges at him regardless of where he is or what is going on. The other night I was playing with Bhodi on the kitchen counter and andy was about 10 feet away standing at the sink doing some dishes. Bhodi ran as fast as his tiny legs could carry him, barreled over a coffee mug to show andy how tough he was and then lunged even though andy had already backed away. I had been told previous to meeting the bird that he had very little body language when upset but we are both seeing quite the opposite which is a great learning tool for andy and I as cockatoos are not usually quite so direct. This guy must be part amazon!

Bhodi is a real softy when he is someplace where he can feel secure. He is very gentle with me and though he has bitten me a few times, they were all very gentle warning bites, just to let me know that he is not pleased with something (like shaowering, LOL.) I think once Bhodi's screaming issues are worked out and he is allowed to feel a bit more secure, he will be a loving companion for someone...as long as that someone isn't Andy (he likely is not fond of men.)

Here is a picture we took of Bhodi before he really showed a preferance between me and Andy. Isn't he a pretty guy? I think it's going to be more challenging to find the right home for Bhodi than it will be helping him to become the bird he was meant to be. I'm going to try to expand our search out of NM as this is not the great state of knowledgable bird people. I'll keep you all updated.

What wonderful news Anna! I thought about you several times today and was very anxious to hear about your day....

Bohdi is sure a gorgeous bird, and will eventually make someone a wonderful companion. You sould keep your posts as documentation for a possible prospective new owner to get as much insight into the bird as possible. The more armed we are with knowlege the better!

His screaming let up for a while last night and my sanity returned. Today has been a wonderful break.

He didn't scream too much today because his throat was sore from all the screaming he did yesterday. He will be better tomorrow.

...the two birds were screaming back and forth all day yesterday...

They weren't screaming - they were just talking loud to each other.

... as cockatoos are not usually quite so direct.

Anna - are you referring to other Umbies when you say cockatoos???

he will be a loving companion for someone...as long as that someone isn't Andy (he likely is not fond of men.)

Oh Anna - I do love a challenge - but we are a one bird home. :(

Here is a picture we took of Bhodi before he really showed a preferance between me and Andy.

He is bold - isn't he? I love it.

I'm going to try to expand our search out of NM as this is not the great state of knowledgable bird people.
I don't live in NM. I don't even know where NM is. :hihihi:

Larry, you work on your beautiful wife. Buy her flowers, cook her supper, do the dishes, rub her feet, tell her you are the luckiest man alive...and Bhodi is all yours.

Well, I suppose Baby will just have to do something new and confusing to give you a good challenge. :D

I think we should take a vote as to weather Larry & Baby will have a new companion to help both Larry & Baby to take their minds off her feathers. Beside Larry just loves a challenge. What is the consensus? Good work Anna & Andy! I do think Umbies can be a challenge & Harry lets you know most of the time when he is getting aggressive the body language is usually pointing arrows at where his wrath:firemad: will descend.

Anna, The biggest sign I get from a cockatoo (well, the U2s anyways) is in the eyes. They get squinty and cat shaped when they are put off by something. I don't know if this may be true of all big birds, my experience has only been with the toos. But Bhodi's eyes told me right off the bat that he was contemplating action of some sort. Patty
