View Full Version : Larry et al. About your sprouts
You were concerned about the sprouts going bad. Do you leave them in a sprouter? I soak them overnight and rinse the next day. That second day, I put them in a steamer with a bowl under it. I spread them out well so the air can get to them. No problem so far.

Dot,
I never thought about doing them the way you suggest. I put a 1/8 cup of sprout mix in a sprout jar, in the morning I rinse, then I rinse that evening, and rinse the next morning and feed the next day.
I never take the sprouts out of the jar until I serve.
I will have to rethink my approach.
But my method works well. I have one bird and cycling 1/8 cup on the 3 jar rotation means Baby has sprouts for lunch about 5 days a week.
Any suggestions???

You are talking to the village idiots of sprouting. Are you sprouting any grains? I think legumes and grains take longer to sprout. That is why I switched methods. I'm like you. I can't stand the thought of those seeds clumped up together. I fed sprouted grains today.

Hey, I just made a suggestion about something I had just learned.
Laugh at me? I just fixed your happy butt. I sent and email with my "sprouting document" attached. Happy reading. And remember, those are only a few of the posts on sprouting. If only I could retain some of it. All I can say, is at least I try.

I have to admit that I have never even tried it :hide:and honestly had never heard of it until a few months back from Don. I want to...me! me! me! I will take a recipe and directions :chef:..anything that's good for them.

OK, Larry has not answered the PM I sent him, so he as apparently gone to bed. Gee. Imagine that. So, I am going to post this without his permission. It is to help the birds and I feel certain he will not mind.
I am getting my information from a Yahoo Group called FeedingFeathers. Once you join, you can go to their files and they have all sorts of articles, including a step by step how to sprout, with photos.

Above is a link to their files. I don't know if you can get in without joining. I hope I don't get in trouble with them too. But, they are definitely trying to help birds. There is no agenda there. They are not selling anything.
If this is not appropriate, someone pull it, but I will argue with you on the best way to help the birds.

Dot - you did not include in your post that the info there is as boring as poop... like you privately told me

Read closely and you'll see that I posted it before getting your permission. Oops. I know you are for the birds.
There is a tremendous amount of discussion that is way over my head. I am seriously considering taking some nutrition classes. They are some smart folks and they are so patient with us newbees. Do go check out the files section so they won't have to answer the same question 30 trillion times.
I buy my sprouts and GSE from Grey Feathers and I go to a health food store to buy the grains. I plan on going to the health food store and looking for more legumes.
