Well Larry, I got my shower curtain rod today! Let the games begin! I already have mine up and will put Chicken in there with toys as soon as he gets some 'momma's finally home for the day' lovins! How's it going for you so far?
Larry and I have decided to try to teach Chicken and Baby how to shower themselves. We have decided to buy shower curtian rods and put them across the shower from front to back at about shoulder highth.
We will start off slow. Just allowing the bird to be on the rod with no water running then move to a dribble of water and then to a shower of water.

Oh this sounds fun. I would participate, but my too likes showers all ready, and there is NO hope for the Duch....
I'm anxious to hear how it goes!;)

Bonnie,
All it will take is time and positive reinforcement, you will get there. Chicken is such a wonderful big guy, he will come around. Just make it "fun" for the both of you, and you will get there!
Carl will not always start out wanting a shower, but he knows the only way to get time with the blow dryer is when he takes a good shower with me. That is the biggest "trick up my sleve".....
Good luck,
Julie

Bonnie..I started Bambam out on a cosco 2-step ladder..then stopped when Larry posted about "lead in paints"..I found a SS 2-step ladder @ targets for around $34..on the wedsite if you want to ck it out..now I'm re-training by going in with him & holding him on my arm...he doesn't like it as much & climbs to my head..oh well..guess I'm a wet hen tooooooooooo:rofl:it also calms him down..he got one today & there is peace:haha:

We have a shower bench I put Harry on. At first I just let it trickle pretty warm water on the end away from Harry and let him watch the water then gradually made the flow strong enough to pepper him with the reflected water from the bench. Now he is beginning to enjoy his showers more & more. He still pouts from time to time going in. I relly like the bench for birds(we bought it for my MOM).

Bonnie,
I also use a shower rod that I permanently keep in the tub at tub level (makes for an interesting shower experience for me, but hey...). I keep it at this level because I had it slip one day and Linus went spilling into the tub. Fortunately, I've never had to drag him in there kicking and screaming and he seemed to forgive my transgression. His weight combined with steam and wet walls caused it to slip I guess. Anyway I think it's safer having the support of the top of the tub now.

I had one of those perches that attached to the shower wall with rubber cups. It fell off and scared whichever bird was on it. I threw it out.
I now have a perch that hangs from the shower and folds down. It has rubber cups, but I don't bother with them because I don't trust them. I put one or two birds on it at a time. The perch itself is ribbed so the birdies can get a good grip. They can move along the perch to get out of the water or into it as much as they want to. None of them liked showers before I got this, but now at least seem to enjoy them. One just tolerates a shower, but at least she doesn't shriek like she used to.
I can't remember the brand name of the perch, but I got it from Phoenix Landing, a reputable rehoming organization.

The only problem with something like this is we have a shower curtian on a rod. I wouldn't have anything to hang it from.

Hey Bonnie girl,
I have been running hard on a few projects and have not had the time to start the shower training. I did buy the shower rod as you suggested. I got a heavy duty one. I think this thing will work.
Keep me posted - as I will you. I will start her training this weekend.

Most of our birds detested water when we first got them including peggy sue and benny boy. I turned shower time into the ultimate ego stroke by praising whichever bird I had in the shower with me (on my arm) until they cracked under the pressure and had to let the silly shower dance out. Be sure to praise chicken and baby until you feel sick to your stomach. Benny boy and Peggy Sue are some of my best shower buddies now and would win a shower dance contest any day. Positive reinforcement works. :)

I have been putting Chicken on the rod with no water. He doesn't want to be on it and will pitch a birdy fit until I move him up to the higher one.... Any suggestions?

Raise the new rod a little higher.

It just hangs on the shower head where it comes out of the wall. It is triangle shaped with the point at the top, and the fold-out perch at the bottom. I have a little shower, and there is room for the perch, 2 or 3 birds, and me. Since the perch part just folds up, I leave it in the shower all the time.

Here you go!
"Hi Evelyn! The best way to get them now is through www.rosespet.com (http://www.rosespet.com/) in CA. Tell Margo, the owner, that Phoenix Landing sent them! They should be $35. Ann "
I think you'll be very happy with it. I love mine.
