still snowed in. I've been out trying to dig myself out of the drifts, after 2 hours and finally finding my car and finally getting shoveled back to the back door I'm POOPED! {had to wade through a 4 foot drift to get a shovel} and still haven't seen anyone here to clear my driveway. I guess me and the fids get another day of playtime! As usual hubby is snowed away from home so I'm stuck shoveling by myself.

Lesson learned??? make darn sure there is a shovel at both doors BEFORE you need one. There is a shovel at the front door that I cannot get out of:(

As long as you have heat and food and your FIDS I know you are happy, so are they!

I won't deny I'm where I prefer to be, just not looking forward to the work piling up on my desk, but for now I'm warm, have lots of snuggles and plenty of food, you learn to keep a months supply on hand around here in the winter best of all... I have chocolate:D

But do you have good chocolate????

Sorry to hear about the show shoveling arms, they are gonna be numb for hours, then throb.... Sorry hon.

But I am TOTALLY jealous of all the fid time you get to have!

Enjoy it while you can!

Same situation here. 3 days off from school. I have to admit, unexpected days off are kind of relaxing. If I have a planned vacation time, I have things I want to get done. Not being able to go anywere forces me to sit around and chill out.
Then again, I just got done shoveling out my driveway and car and that was not fun at all. Its only 9 degrees outside and I worked up such a sweat I ended up taking off my coat. The plus is that I got some good weight bearing excercise today. Hope I don't pay for it tomorrow. And birds got extra mom time, although Cosmo was a little screamy today. I think she decided since I'm home all this time, I better be with her.

I would agree, unexpected days off are relaxing. I have done alot of goofing off, laying and watching TV, playing with the fids, got the office cleaned up did the shoveling thing also AND I cleaned my curio cabinet! What a plus cause I got to put my new piece in...

Ok now the practical question-are you staying warm with Hot Chocolate or Apple Cider? What is your favorite recipe for those extra cold snowy days?

neither... I don't tend to drink warm drinks sometimes I have hot chocolate but I just drank chocolate milk keeping warm on the bed snuggling up to the fids.
My favorite thing to eat is potato soup, nothing better to warm you up.

Sounds warm and yummy-
Peel and boil 3-5 largish potatoes in Chicken broth
cook one finely chopped onion in a little olive oil or butter and add a shredded carrot to the onion to saute a bit
When potatoes are fork tender mash up to a lumpy consistancy and add some salt, pepper , celery flakes and parsley flakes (rosemary, basil or a little red pepper flakes to taste) I also add a tiny touch of nutmeg
drain the onion carrot mix and add to the potaoes, pour in one bottle of beer allow to simmer and blend a bit then add 1/2 cup of 1/2 & half or cream and 10oz or more of the cheeses of your choice ( I use sharp cheddar and mozzarella) stir while it melt and serve with crusty bread and a salad. Enjoy!
Oops forgot the topping-crispy crumbled bacon
