It is so rarely that I come across truly fresh millet that I want to buy it in bulk. However, unless it can be frozen I can't use it fast enough before it goes stale. Someone told me once to freeze it, but it doesn't seem like it would do well. Aside from the moisture from the thawing process, I would think it would get brittle. Anyone tried this??
Does anyone else have only bird food in their freezer??

Mine have their own fridge for pete's sake-little brats. I kid you not! I freeze and refrigerate everything for them. I cook and freeze...stockpile... Buy in bulk and break it into gallon size bags and refrigerate, etc... They have bags of dried fruit, bags of pellets, bags of veggies -dried and frozen, water, etc. So yes, it's only bird food in there...
But never froze any seeds...so can't help ya there.

That's a good question Patty.
I never tought about freezing it. I buy mine in the 10 pound bag. That's a lot of millet.
I tried to Seal-A-Meal some - didn't work.
I figure it looks dry when I get it - so it won't hurt to leave it in the large bag that it came in --- but I could be wrong.
What do you think?

Hey Wanda, go to walmart and pick up a $40 Seal-A-Meal... the cheapy one without all the bells and whistles. I bought one several months ago - and I love it. I buy my seed/nut mix by the 20 or 30 pound bulk and then put 3 cups in each sealing bag. I seal it up and it stays as fresh as the day I bought it. No need to freeze or refridge.
It has saved me a ton of money with human foods as well. Meat will keep up to a year in the freezer once sealed up. And seeds and nuts can keep without fridge for up to 6 months.
Try it -
I wrote the experts at Feeding Feathers. Yes, you can freeze it.
"Yes. Raw, cooked or sprouted...you can freeze it."

Great! Thanks for the info. All my birds love millet, hopefully I can keep it fresh for them.
