View Full Version : Surgery Scheduled for Thursday

I will be having shoulder surgery to repair a full tear rotator cuff and carpal tunnel surgery on my left wrist on Thursday. For several months, I have been seeing specialists and having tests done, to find the cause of progressive loss of mobility of both arms and numbness in both hands. Both shoulders have full tears and both wrists have carpal tunnel. They'll be doing the left side on Thursday and if we see enough improvement in two months, we'll be doing the right side. I will be out of work for four to six months. I have six months accumulated sick time so the recoup time should still afford me some income.
The good news is that I will have plenty of time to spend on Happy Birdy. I'm left handed and will have to type with just my right hand, but Cloud has offered to respond to all HB posts for me. (I assured him that would not be necessary, but I did catch him trying to log in with his own name and password.)
My daughter and grandson are planning on moving in towards the end of November which will be a help. In the meantime she will be stopping in to help out with daily chores. I've repackaged bird seed mixes and soaked and frozen bean mixes in smaller containers that can be managed with one hand. I've also been stock piling heavy and bulky items so I'll only have to shop for the basics.
After Thursday my posts may not be so long-winded.

Will be thinking of you on Thursday, and will look for a short quick update as soon as you can so we know all went well. or a quick phone call to someone so they can let others know. I'm sure Cloud will be more than helpful to you in helping you heal, he's such a knowledgable little guy. Plus the girls will help too I'm sure, just explain to them no escaping is allowed for a few days.
Good luck with the surgery.

I think that Cloud will volunteer for stitch removal as soon as you need it (Or sooner). It will be so nice after you are all healed up. Keeping you in my thoughts and sending healing thoughts.

. . . Were you a heavy swimmer or something? . . . .
I think it was a combination of a lot of wear and tear. . . 27 years on a volunteer rescue squad, 19 years of which was also a volunteer firefighter, competitive volleyball, white water kayaking and renovating a 120 year old home. I've worked and played hard and it all caught up with me sooner than I expected.

Lots of prayers coming your way for a very speedy recovery (I know those procedures take some time to recover from). Please let us know how we can support you. My dad just had a shoulder surgery. It was successful, but he was in a lot of pain and felt really sick from the meds. He is doing better now, 10 days later. Will be think of you on thursday. Check in when you are feeling up to it.

Thank you all for your kind words and wishes. I'm keeping positive thoughts. I don't like having limits on what I want to do. I do look forward to spending more time with birds and Hunter and being chauffeured around by my daughter for a change. Maybe I'll bug her to drop me at the mall to 'hang' with my friends. Hehehehe!
Putting you in my prayers.

I go in at 6:30 am and should be home by noon. Today I power washed all the cages and play gyms. They all have new chew toys that will be put in their cages when I get home so they will be occupied while I sleep. I have the girls favorite music set up on the computer in a random mix (Molly's country and Motown and Blossom's Celine Dion and Pavarotti). When I get home my daughter will move Clouds cage to the front window so he can watch the traffic and scream at the FedEx truck.
Thank you all again for all your kind thoughts and prayers. Keep the pictures and stories coming so I have something to occupy me for a few days. Hugs to all of you and your babies.

I got home yesterday, took my pain meds and went to bed. When I woke up I looked out the window and thought, "Wow, I these are some cool meds."

Yes, thats me, but it's just a few minutes out of surgery. Maybe that's why my flock has been so quiet.
Oh, and I really didn't win a prize. I brought the box from home.

were you planning a surgery of your own? :haha: or just making sure Cloud was unarmed for the day.

were you planning a surgery of your own? :haha: or just making sure Cloud was unarmed for the day.
I had joked about one of the surgeons I had considered that seemed like he was running a marathon. I had two appointments with him and each one lasted about 1 1/2 minutes. Both times he walked out of the exam room talking into a mini-recorder. I never got to ask any of my questions. I joked that he probably used Ginsu knives for his surgeries. I had the box at home and threw in my bag on way to the surgery center, along with my camera.
Also, Cloud doesn't need knives, he can do more damage with his razor sharp beaks.

isn't that something all the money they charge and you see them for under 5 minutes  wish I made that kind of $$.

Glad to know that everything went ok. So very amused to see that you REALLY WERE the millionth "customer"...er, patient. Knives? Seems kind of ironic since you won't be using them for a while. Glad the prize didn't go to an irate patient or one sufferinf delusions from the pain killers. HaHa....knives. Why knives.
