License Please! says MO Government/all pets must have permit!

We just became aware of a bill (http://www.house.mo.gov/billtracking/bills081/biltxt/intro/HB1847I.htm) that has been proposed in the Missouri state legislature to force all bird owners and others who have pets that are designated as “wild by nature,” whether bred in captivity or the wild to have to register for a permit to have them on a yearly basis.
Please let everyone you know be aware of this very scary bill. (http://www.house.mo.gov/billtracking/bills081/biltxt/intro/HB1847I.htm) More poorly thought out legislation that needs shooting down.

What is their rationale for needing such a law?

Good question, perhaps the little yearly fee or just to know who has what? I do not know, this is Missouri not Texas.

I lived in MO for 2 years, and let me tell you people are still very "old school" there.

I'm very glad that we no longer live there!

Rio Rancho used to have a permit requirement for all "exotic" animals. We had to renew it every year and apply for an entirely new permit every time we moved. They decided to do away with it last year, thank goodness, though it did give me a good oppertunity to get to know our animal control. I think these kinds of bills are scary and who even knows what other strings may come attached. It makes me want to run away with my birds and hide in a little shack in the mountains, far, far away from where they may eventually be able to take my birds away from me.

I lived in a little town named Moberly for a while. My husband and I were both on the railroad and Moberly was a big railroad town. (Near Columbia and St. Louis)

I loved it, but it was mostly because it was a little town where everybody knew everybody else. You didn't need to show ID for a check. So little was going on that when something did happen (Spaghetti dinner at the high school), everybody came out for it.

I first ate country ham there. When I first ate it, I thought, "The poor dear; she really doesn't know how to cook." It grew on me, though and I like it very much now. For those of you who don't what country ham, it is ham that is tough as shoe leather and tastes like somebody dumped a ton of salt on it. It is an acquired taste.

We were transferred away to Ohio, where it was grey and cold from October to May. B'rrrr. I wasn't sorry to leave there--just sorry to leave my friends. We are in Southwest Virginia now. We have season changes, but usally nothing drastic.
