This is what my vets office carries, and she suggested having on hand. I'm wanting input~ the good, bad, or ugly before I buy it.

Here is the short version...
AVI-x Soother Bird Ointment
INGREDIENTS: 100% pure aloe vera and ammonia solution
I have no problem with aloe at all. It sooths and heals. But remember, a little dab will do ya. Aloe is a laxitive and should be used in moderation.
Here is the long version...
We have a slew of avian vets in my area because of all the breeders and bird owners here. When I first got Baby I knew I needed an excellent avian vet that I trusted. So, I went on the rounds to find the best vet possible. I scheduled four well-birdie check ups with different vets and asked the vets and technicians a bunch of questions. The winner would get my business.
The first vet was very good but more than 45 minutes away.
The second vet was... ugh.
The third vet was double ugh.
The forth vet was fantastic and near me. That is who I chose.
What I noticed was all the vets had Harrison's pellets for sale as well as the Avix products.
The first three vets tried to push the Harrison's and Avix products on me. I asked the last vet about Harrison's and she said they are okay. And then she gave me a list of fresh foods she recommends. Oh by the way... my vet is also a breeder with over 200 birds.
I found out later that Harrison's as well as the Avix products do mass marketing through vets.
My point is... just because a vet recommends (pushes) a product doesn't necessarily mean it's good.
Harrison's pellets are okay but Baby has lost her taste for them.
Avi products are okay but I would never use anything other than their Avix-Soother which is aloe. Their producst that are water and food additives should be avoided all togehter. Too much like Pluck-No-More mumbo-jumbo.
I certainly have a problem with their directions for Avix Soother.
AVI-x Soother Bird Ointment
DIRECTIONS: Apply to affected area with a cotton-tipped applicator and massage in as directed. Thoroughly bathe the bird at least once during treatment to minimize buildup. Use for only 10 days. If the disorder continues, contact your veterinarian.
Just not good advice to recommend to home-medicate for 10 days before taking the bird to a vet.

Also... when Baby first started plucking, I tried a variety of products including Avix Soother Spray. It contains aloe and distilled water.
None of the products I tried helped with her plucking. I am back to bathing her in plain water.

I have heard people happy with the liquid sunshine but not impressed with the rest.
