I have lived in NM my whole life and I love just about every aspect of the environment. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more green from time to time, but I can't complain. The one thing that I absolutely cannot stand about NM is the windy season. We have several a year and dust and dirt blows everywhere. Some dust storms are so bad that they can prevent motorists from being able to see where they are going through all of the haze. Today is one of those windy days. The first thing I heard when I woke up was the howling wind and decided right away that this was not a day for running errands or visiting friends.
For those who don't know, we have a little welsh corgi mix named Penny who is primarily an outdoor dog. She likes to come inside at night to visit and to get a break from the heat of summer or dead of winter, but our yard is her domain and we are convinced that she hangs out back there, plotting ways to take over the world. (You would want to take over the world too if you had legs that only lifted you 6 inches off the ground.)
Anyway, I was sitting at the kitchen table, feeding Gabe his lunch when I saw something out of the corner of my eye that redirected my attention. Our trash container had fallen over and was rolling back and forth in the yard. The wind would push it one way and then another. I went back to feeding gabe but again something caught my eye and this is what I saw:

Our brave little Penny had also noticed the rolling container and decided it was her swarn duty to gaurd it. She laid down next to it and wouldn't take her eye off the thing to make sure it wasn't going anywhere. Every time it rolled a little bit, she would reposition herself to be near it. Then suddenly a big gust of wind came throughthe yard and carried the evil thing away. she sprung to action and followed it wherever it went. This went on for quite some time and I sat inside, watching with amusement as my brave little dog was herding our trash can around the yard. Here's a little video I took toward he end.
