Some of you have been curious about my screen name so I decided it would be fun to share Foxer with you all. As most of you know, I am an artist and have been ever since I can remember. When I was a child and into my pre-teen years I really didn't have many friends. My peers were afraid of me and picked on me because I had been born blind, with cateracts in both eyes, and have to wear bi-focal glasses which make me look a little "different." So I spent a lot of my time drawing and loved to draw little comic strips (and still do).

When I was 11 or 12, I thought it would be fun to take a photograph of myself and photos of my friends and combine them with animals to make little cartoon characters that represented each of us. When I was younger (and before I had discovered the joy of parrots) I was very much into wolves. There was something about them that seemed so natural, so wild, and most importantly, so free. In a lot of ways I felt insecure and trapped in who I was and what I was not and I wanted to be more free. But there was also something that seemed out of control when I thought of the wolf...perhaps their primal instincts seemed too abrasive to me. It was that feeling that led me to ponder over the fox. Foxes seemed to be more humble and gentle, both qualities that I always wanted in my life. I thought if I could combine the qualities of a wolf and the qualities of the fox then I could have a character that really represented me for what I would always strive to be.

So out of my bordem and creativity came a little creature I affectionately called "Foxer" and the name just stuck! I use it even today because it's just a little reminder to me to strive to be all of those things that I had one day hoped to be. So my screen name is Foxer's Artist. Foxer is me but I am also the artist of Foxer. I guess that just goes to show that we make ourselves what we are. We are not made one way or another. We always have a choice to be what we want to be and we are always growing.

Here's Foxer!

I was Raven for some similar reasons both with my art & my poetry. The freedom of flight and the sense of humor they exhibit always attracted me. I can see your warmth in your cartoon depiction of yourself.

Anna, What a touching story that is - and I was wondering about FoxersArtist. You know what my favorite part of the story is?? The fact that the girl born blind became an artist who sees the world in the way you do.

The Drs told my parents that I would never drive, would have to go to a special school for the blind and would walk with a cane. I guess I decided not only would I have nothing to do with all of that business, but I thought it would be appropriate to one up them as well by being an artist. HeHe. And actually - to this day, every year when I go to the eye Dr. my eyes have improved just a little more and they have to write me a thinner prescription. LOL. I'm not a patient enough person to be blind. I have things to do!

One more reason why I think drs are quacks with stethescopes :) They told us my cousin who is blind, bedridden, deaf in one ear, with cerebral palsy wouldn't live past 4, then past 12. she's 20 years old this year

Well, we love "just you"....

My parents were told that I would not live past the age of 10, and that if I did I would live a very limited life due to my heart.... As science progresses, so does life, and now after just 1 surgery I live a full "NORMAL" life. Just goes to show you when you set your mind to some thing you can do it!

Anna you are a beautiful person, a role model we can all aspire to! Thank you for the insight!
