I don't think I've posted much about our red lorys on this site but I had to share this.

Of our two lorys, the female Mars (my lory) is known not only for picking up everything that he other birds say as well as what we say, but for stringing them together into semi-coherent sentences. Some examples of her vocabulary include "kitty kitty kiss kiss," "dirty bird," "pretty bird," "chicken nugget," etc.

Well, today I was cleaning out in the aviary and Marsy was jabbering away as usual when suddenly she blurted out, "Hey, Andy! Kitty's a pretty biiiiiiird!"

I couldn't help but laugh out loud and come in to share it with you! Okay...back to the birds...

Marsy is such a trip! I wish lories weren't such difficult birds to keep so I felt comfortable having one!

I think Marsy was referring to Uriel being a pretty bird. Uriel sits and meows like a kitty cat...and he meows, and he meows. Now, we used to have a cat so Marsy knows what one sounds like. she LOVED that cat and we actually had to keep them seperate or Mars would run over and try to hang off the cats ears or whiskers. Her favorite game was wrestling with the cats tail. Obviously this is NOT a good idea as cat saliva is swimming with bacteria so we did our best to keep them apart. Anyway, I think Mars remembers the kitty, hears Uriel and his kitty noises and decided to start calling Uriel "kitty." What do you think? Is kitty a pretty bird?

I don't know about that, but Mars is certainly a smart bird.

As many things as Tamar says, I don 't know if she knows what any of it means, except "Gimme a kiss."

LOL! We don't coordinate these things. I think we both just assume that we are each making our own memories with the birds that we can share individually. Secretly, I just get down on my knees and pray that nothing embarrassing is shared about me.:D It's funny though, sometimes he comes home from work and asks how my day went...I tell him to read my recent posts! :haha:

I guess I'm lucky, hubby does not have a "posting" identity yet. I'm sure he reads up though. I will come home some times, and he says "I've opened up HB so you can get caught up", like I don't read it at work!!!! LOL

LOLOL! Shane will go "What happened on HB today?" Instead of "what happened at work today?"
