Does anyone else give their birds chicken bones? None of ours can resist them and all of them seem to know that if they crack them open, they can eat the marrow in the middle. Thoughts?

I use to give chicken bones. A vet spoke at our bird club once and showed photos of bloody stool. The necropsy showed that the bird had eaten a bone splinter. I no longer offer bones.

Wow...do you have any idea what type of bird this was? I would be curious to know more.

Yep - and my vet's M2 she had for 25 years died of a splinter she ingested from her perch. But I have not yet thrown out all my perches. Hmmm???

Baby loves chicken legs. I strip most of the meat off and she splits open the bone and eats the marrow. I buy chicken legs by the dozen. She gets about 2 to 4 a week. They are rich in protien and other goodies.

It was a parrot, Amazon or Grey sized. That is all I can remember. I probably hid my head as soon as the slide came up.

I was delivering some nuts to a friend at my vets and said something about the Laefaber (sp?) treats I had been given. They say they have the correct ration of Omega 3 to Omega 6. I said I thought it was 3 to 1 but could never remember which way. The vet said, "And they keep changing it."

Again, I have four birds. Two are straight from the jungle and two are one generation from the jungle. We don't even know what they eat in the wild. It is a crap shoot feeding them in captivity. The same goes for wood splinters and bone splinters. The same goes for our crossing the road. LOL
