Someone requested that I share some photos and videos of miss Loretta so here they are!
For those of you who did not read my post about loretta on another board a while ago, Loretta was one of our rescues and came from the same home as our BE2, benny. We know very little about her hystory except that her previous owner had her for about 10 years. Loretta is estimated to be about 45 years old. At some point in her life she developed a sinus infection and left untreated it caused sever damage to one of her eyes as well as her hearing. She can still see out of one eye, though we aren't sure how well. We imagine that loretta's ear and sinus itched her so badly that she spent a great deal of time rubbing her face on her cage bars for relief. After a while, the constant rubbing destroyed her feather folicles, leaving that side of her face bald. She still had a sinus infection when we adopted her.
Loretta has other health issues because she is so old and her feathers always grow in ratty and tattered, but we see past her outter shell into the soul of a queen. Loretta is our aviary watchman. She is easily excitable and lets everyone around know exactly how she feels. She seems old and crabby at a glance but she is the most soft hearted amazon I have ever had the pleasure of being around. Every night I sing to her before bed and tell her how beautiful she is. She is easily frightened because of her blindness but she will slowly step up when spoken to softly. I always draw her close to me and kiss her sweet old head and she coos at me in appreciation. That alone has made every element of rescue completely worth it.

benny boy, the day we brought him home, 2 weeks after loretta came home: (his feathers were stringy like fur!)

PS: Thank you Evelyn, for being kind enough to offer your home to loretta should something happen to us. You are a fantastic Godmommy for her!
