I got a promotion!!!!!!!!!!

kind of a double edged sword kind of thing...a dear friend and coworker who I have worked with for 11 years had a series of national accounts & was so stressed and not doing well with them...there are cuts going on at work...she got laid off yesterday..they brought me in an office and told me and I started to cry..then they offerred me the job..with a raise..I told them I would decide today..of course I am taking the job..I already half did that job years ago when things were structured differently and the customers love me already ..I am very familiar with the work...and I can work..believe me..I deserve it..lol..at age 53 ...can you believe this..so even if they make more cuts and I get lopped, that will look good on my resume....but it is still on the back of someone else...gosh..I couldnt sleep last night thinking about my friend and she called me very early this a.m. at work and told me she was fine..and actually happy to be gone....so I still feel weird but happy weird.

Congratulations!! It sure doesn't hurt to add another feather to your cap and more money is ALWAYS great. Sorry for the way it came about though - kind of a hollow victory in that sense. But congrats all the same.

I wouldn't feel too bad about your friend. You didn't have anything to do with her getting terminated, and your employer would have filled the job with somebody--it might as well be you.

Congratulations! It's more than natural to feel bad about your friend - on my last promotion I went to tell a friend I would be working with him only to meet him in the hall as he was being walked out by security! It turned out I was replacing him! But don't worry, I've often heard it said by others that getting fired was the best thing that ever happened to them.
