Have you ever had one of those days where either everything seems to go wrong or everything that happens seems strange? Well, I'm having one of those days today. I was excited when I woke up this morning because today is the day that my mom has agreed to take Gabe for the day so I could work on some art. Hurray! Unfortunately, my day has had different ideas about the way it's going to go. Our water heater went out this morning and Andy tirelessly tried to fix it all morning and finally gave up just in time to rush out the door for work. We usually clean birds together but I guess i'm going solo today. Awww. Also, I think Katie most certainly got the memo that she is an only child today and is taking full advantage of every second. This of course is something I could never complain about, though I am watching my artwork slowly fade into the distance and am waving sadly as is disappears over the horizon.

SO! Are you ready for the the thing that has really pushed this day over the edge and into that unknown zone of strange? I went to the fridge to get some breakfast. I poured a bowl of cereal and then realized that I was out of whole milk. No problem, I'll just use Andy's 2% milk instead. I filled the bowl and took a great big bite. Fabulous! The milk is sour. Ok, not a problem. I feel more like eggs anyway. When I lifted the egg carton out of the fridge my heart sunk. I opened it up to discover that there was only one little egg left in the carton. Awwww. Still trying to have a positive attitude I decided to fry my single egg up and scrounge for something else to eat for breakfast. Maybe if I added half a pound of cheese on top of my egg, it would suffice as an entire meal. Hmmm. I cracked the egg open and...behold! My breakfast has had twins! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that there were two yolks in the bowl. I didn't know chickens could have twins. Has anyone else ever experienced this oddity?

Anna -

Yes. When in high school (many long years ago) I picked for my science project incubating hen's eggs; had to build an incubator, etc.

I bought the eggs from a farmer instead of the grocery story ( l doz.) Several of them had double yolks, and one had a triple yolk.

I have found double & triple yolk eggs from the grocery store. it is usually the large or jumbo eggs but have even found one in a small brown egg. My family has dairy issues so we use either Soy or Almond milk, my daughter puts OJ on her cereal. It's pretty good & safe for Harry too.

Anna,

I grew up on a small farm, and our chickens, occassionally, would produce a double yolk. Go figure!

At least you got another gram of protien to your wimpy breakfast!

Ok...I suppose I was just out of the loop on that one...hadn't been alive long enough to crack and egg and find a double yolk. ;)

Growing up in a farming area and buying most of our produce and such directly from the farmers, it was more common than not to have double and triple yokes. You see - the city folks like 1 egg = 1 yoke. So, before the eggs were packed for shipping - the farmers would candle the eggs and the ones that had more than one yoke were set aside.

We locals got the best of the deal.

The best eggs I ever ate were duck eggs. Very large and had a strong egg taste.

I buy brown eggs from the health store which is from some local farm. They are extra-large eggs and there is the occational double yokes. One time the whole dozen were double yoked. I love finding them.
