Noticed tonight that Zoey (U2) is sitting with her bum hanging a bit lower and she has been on the bottom of the cage at times playing - not huddled looking ill. When outside the cage she decided to be under the cage again for awhile. Then she acts totally normal and is eating okay. I am wondering if she will lay an egg. (We do have a male M2 that she interacts with every night and they do try to mate at times.) My worry now is that we are taking off early tomorrow morning for the airport flying to Ohio for our niece's HS graduation. We won't be home until midnight Sunday/Monday morning. I will leave my vet's number. Can anyone tell me if this sounds like egg laying behavior please? What else should we watch out for? Hope someone is still up that can help. Thanks. Laura

Sounds like she is feeling hormonal &nesty , if she is active and eating you should not have to worry about egg binding. Let us know how she is doing today. Hopwe you travel safely and get to share your nephews triumph.

What is her weight? Has she had a jump in weight?

Thanks for your replies. Don D. also thinks it is hormonal. Unfortunately I cannot weigh her, she will not stay on the scale or get on even the perch one I use to own. I have to take her to the vet to do it!! She feels okay - I was able to pick her up before bed. She was also playing with Buchee last night like normal and this morning seems fine. Hopefully no egg laying, but I wanted to be careful since I was leaving this morning. Off I go. Thanks again.

Got home from Ohio around midnight last night and I could here Zoey trying to poo (she makes a noise). I went to check on her and the newspaper was freshly changed sometime that evening, but she had no poo on it. Took her out and examined her and gave her some cuddles. I knew the vet would need to be called in the morning. She was at least NOT at the bottom of her cage.

Well, the vet this morning could feel the big egg inside of her and she finally got some poo out and the vet said she probably hadn't eatten in a couple days. (Makes me feel awful we were away!!!!) So I left Zoey with the vet. She will try giving Zoey a hormone that will allow her to relax more and try to pass the egg on her own. Then if that doesn't work, surgery to get the egg out. Of course there are risks involved, but it now is in the hands of the vet and the Lord. So please pray for Zoey and I will let you know more later. I am going to try to keep busy to help pass the time. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Prayers for little miss Zoey and {{hugs}} for mom. Please keep us updated. Has she ever laid an egg before?

Yes, right after Buchee arrived and she passed the egg fine. If I had been here all weekend, I would have been able to watch her and possibly take care of her on my own. Maybe putting some mineral oil around the vent would have helped. BUT I was not here and have no idea how bad she became, so I just wanted her at the vets just in case. I am trying not to feel guilty for not contacting the vet while I was traveling to the airport. I just hope she will be okay. I use to have a cockatiel that would lay eggs every year. I remember being a bit worried each time she was about to lay.

Thanks for you thoughts and prayers.

Since this in not an emergency any more, I posted over to another part of the board. But I placed it here as well.

Zoey did not respond to the hormonal med and she started to bleed a bit. So the vet took an x-ray and found, " a mother of all eggs!" inside Zoey and then felt it was too big to pass. So they surgically removed the egg. Zoey has woken up and is doing okay. She did lose some blood in the process. I can pick her up around 5 pm and take her home. She needs to stay quiet for 3 days not interacting with Buchee. The vet asked if they could be seperated by rooms, knowing of course they would call to each other. Because of the remodeling of upstairs and stuff in the spare bedroom, I cannot move either one into the other room or upstairs. I could wheel Zoey into the kitchen and she could somewhat be away from Buchee. OR I can let Buchee out by himself and see if she gets too excited. Hummmm..... Maybe I should move her into the kitchen and they can at least see each other. What do you think?

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. Please keep her in your thoughts for a few more days please. Thanks again.

They will preen each other, chew on stuff together, but Buchee can sometimes moves around the bag or box she is playing in. The vet does not want Zoey to fall or have her vent played with.
