I bought a toy almost exactly like this. Can anyone suggest something fun to put in it that will encourage Chicken to work to get the item out?

Bonnie,

I have one similar for Baby. I have had for over 3 years. I fill it with shredded paper. She used to spend hours pulling the paper out. I would also suggest some small soft wood pieces that Chicken can pull through the bars of the toy.

Thank you Larry! I had thought about shredded paper. Do you ever use food? Like apple or grapes?

No I have not put food in it - that is a great idea.

I shred paper in my paper shredder. I usuall make a garbage bag full of it to keep on hand to fill small cardboard boxes, small paper bags, and the like. I tie them to the horizontal bars with weeping rope at a location where she can easily get to them.

Bonnie -

I put big leaves of raw greens in mine. They eat more that way than if I just put the greens in their food dish.

I like to wrap a whole almond or walnut in a big wad of tiolet paper or paper towel. Then I pack as many of these wads into the toy as possible. Birdy has lots of fun, gets to make a big mess and then gets a tasty treat in the end.
