I saw this poll in a magazine and thought I'd ask it here.

we dont change Sam's very often as she is a non cage pooper...so we just change it once a week...but the canaries and finch we have to change every two to three days

Once a day here... sometimes twice if I give Baby fresh corn and bell peppers. She does make a mess at times.

But I will say - I might do my cage different than most folks. I put down many layers of newspaper "over" the grate. So - there are some times when I only have to take up the top layer of paper and trash it and the contents. Then I have other layers beneath that are clean.

You know, I keep meaning to try that and I just keep forgetting. I wonder if Linus would leave the newspaper alone and not wad it into a ball. Only one way to fine out, I guess!
None of my other birds have the grates in their cages.

Jody needs hers generally pulled every day, occasionally I can get away with every other but she has messy poops.
Kalea, now she is a neat pooper and I might pull hers like 4-5 days but if she takes a bath in the cage it has to be pulled then as she really gets the water all over.

We used to do ours every single day but WHEW, that gets incredibly exhausting. We still do some of them every day, like the lories, Loretta, and Francis (sometimes we do Francis cage twice a day because she steps in poop a lot.) But most of the guys aren't TOO messy so we change them every other day and this seems to be working out well. Sweeping on the other hand, hehe. This is a twice a day at least project.

I change the top layer of paper three times a week...bonney is the messy one, so maybee four times for her

Larry, it is not a good idea to let the bird eat where it poops.

the smaller birds cages I do every 2-3 days, the TOOS & Syd I have many layers and pull the top 2-3 layers off every evening as they are the messiest plus it's easier to watch their poops from all the tooth picks in the bottom of the cage.

I don't change Clouds' papers . . . . I just keep putting papers in and Mr. Cloud takes care of removing and shredding them daily.

I have the same thing with Linus. I still have to monitor his poops carefully and the wood chips he tosses from his bucket make that tough..

Love that Cloud photo! Harry has to be daily he is a mess, Fred I can do the layers thing and Pookie depends on what she has been up to, often daily but some time the layer thing works for her. Tiels every 2-3 days.
