I was at the vet today and one of the techs asked me if I wanted to take in a 22 year old Goffins that was going to be needing a new home. Head tilted, ears pricked, I started hammering her with questions. Here's the deal: She (dna tested) is a single home 22 year old. The guy who has owned her says his wife doesn't like her because the too dust is aggravating her allergies. Further they are going to be having a baby. They don't want money for her, just a good home. I asked about her cage, now get this...she doesn't HAVE one. She has a perch that she never leaves - she is home all day alone on her perch, and has been that way for 22 years. (My next question of course was: 'are you sure this is a cockatoo??') I asked about her diet and found out at least they have her on pellets and not seed, but when I get in touch with the guy I will probe more into that. Apparently she's a very sweet and cuddly little thing with no issues (well, until she's taken from her home of 22 years and moves in with a stranger, that is.)
So I need to ask you, how did princess Stella deal with the arrival of Cassie? Did she snub you? Did she try to harm Cassie? Will she let you play with Cassie? I have so many questions.

Oh, Patty.
I hope you take her.
Each of my birds has arrived at a separate time; and while I wouldn't leave them all alone outside their cages, there haven't been any big problems. Tamar, the baby CAG, can get jealous, but she's not hateful about it.
What state are you in, BTW. You location doesn't appear.

Patty I think Linus may enjoy some company & companionship and some one else to blame the mess on. It sounds like this little guy could use a soft landing spot.

My experience...
Cassie arrived, and was quaretined for 21 days. I had a complete blood panel done on her, she came from a one bird home. Hubby had taken her into the livingroom early {after about 2 weeks} the vet gave me the all clear so I moved her in. Stella could hear Cassie in the other room but didn't seem too concerned. When I moved Cassie into the livingroom, I just acted like she had always been there and like it was no big deal. The girls don't play together, but I can have them both with me at the same time and they don't fight. If anything Cassie will display to Stella to chase her away. Stella got more cuddly and wanted to dominate mommas attention. Cassie likes to try to get Stella's tail. They are just SO funny to watch.
I don't try to get them to get along, just coexhist, and it's working well.
After they have both taken a shower with hubby, they will each sit on a shoulder and preen themselves. {I know, dumb on my part}
Cassie is also more independant than Stella by a long way, she will play ontop of her cage or on the floor and does a good job of entertaining herself with her toys. There is so many differences but also alot of similarities in their personalities. I love my girls, Stella always will be my #1, Cassie is a close 2nd. I wouldn't trade either of them.
The no cage thing would scare me, although it might stress her to cage her. That would be a question for Anna, Uriel has never been caged.
I also paid no money for Cassie, her owner just wanted her to have the best home she could find.
I hope I answered some of your questions, you know where to find me if you have more.

Thanks Brenda. It sounds like it might be a good situation all around. If she had a temperament like Linus I might be concerned about competition, but she sees to be a very 'roll with the punches' kind of girl. I can't wait to talk to the guy about her.
One concern I have is that I don't have a room to quarantine her in, all my rooms are occupied with birds. Hmmm... Anyone have any ideas on that one??
She's actually never seen a vet, if you can imagine, which on the one hand tells me she's had a healthy life, and on the other maybe she isn't well cared for, although that's not what the tech tells me. I told her to tell the guy that it would have to be with the understanding that if Linus loses it we have to find her another home - I don't want her to get hurt OR lose the bond I now have with Linus. Her name is Theo, I keep refering to her as 'her'. Thanks for the info.

Evelyn,
I am in Austin. Thanks for the info about how your birds have handled new additions. She sounds sweet and relatively low maintenance for a too. The cage thing kind of dreaks me out, though. Brenda made a good point about a potential fear of being caged after this long. But I don't know how I could just leave her out. I'm going leave a post for Anna about how she deals with Uriel being uncaged.
