In doing rescue I know that the odds of losing a bird from time to time is much greater than just having your own small flock. Last night when we came home from an appointment in town, lutino cockatiel Easter had fallen from her perch and passed away. She was a good weight, a good eater, not terribly active, but never seemed to "sulk." Her feathers were approaching perfect condition (though she was still missing her crest) and she was a dear to everyone that came for a visit. All of the droppings on the bottom of the cage were normal, there were no physical signs of illness, and her well birdy appointment to the vet went without a hitch. She was set to be adopted by a little girl who adored her, and I do not yet have the words to contact the family to let them know that she is gone. I am however, very thankful that she passed away here and not after she was adopted as this would likely have been harder on her new family.
We took Easter to the vet this AM to have a necropsy preformed to determine cause of death. I'll let everyone know when the vet calls to let us know her findings. Rest in peace my little one.
