I have no idea how to spell this, but it is probably because of the General Law of Pregnanz (Sorry, it was a German word - sort of sounds like I typed it but has nothing to do with pregnancy). Anything is seen as best as possible given the stimulus conditions. That's why if someon types a word and leaves the "e" off, you don't even notice. You put it there.
