Hello to all. We have a mexican redhead. Does anyone know much about this type of bird? Like how they are with their owner? Her name is Chevy. If her dad is at work, she is fine. When he is home, she calls for him constantly till he picks her up. She is also a shoulder bird 100% of the time, which we would like to discourage. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

My first bird was a Mexican Redhead. That was when I was in middle school. He was very protective of me and my parents ended up making me rehome him. Had I known the things I know now, I'd have been able to keep him, I'm sure of it. In my experience, they are one person birds and very posessive. There are several board members with Amazons that will be along today that can help you better than I. Good luck!

She sounds like a character, we had a male named "Catorro" for a few years who bonded with our youngest child. They would play, watch tv and take showers together but he could leave him in the cage and he would stalk the cats instead. It sounds like Chevy is a smart girl and is very good at training humans. Perhaps giving her more to do and rewarding any quiet moments or move a playstand next to where hubby is usually situated. That way she can see him and feel like she is participating in his routine especially if he talks to her and gives her attention there. More of us will add suggestions so keep watching.
Some behaviors are very hard to break because we keep reinforcing them. I encourage you to go to the site below and take their Mini Lessons.
