Today I was sitting on the sofa with the laptop and Gabe crawled up to sit next to me. I was looking at some photos of buffons and military macaws and Gabe let out an excited "Popeye!"
"You are right Gabe, these birds look just like Popeye." Popeye was one of the first bird names he learned to say.
Then he saw a picture of some cockatoos and he said "Oh! Benny birdies!"
"You are right Gabe, those are birds like both of our cockatoos named Benny. But what kind of bird are they? They are cockatoos. Can you say cockatoo?" His reply was so tickling.
"Cashews!" he announced, very proud of his new word.

That's funny and incredible at the same time, I had no idea these creatures could be *that* perceptive... wow.

Gabe is our 2 1/2 year old son....I would be a bit worried about him if he wasn't developing some skills at being perceptive. :haha: I have worked with birds in the past with that level of understanding though (CAG, sunshine for example).

Cashew and cockatoo are pretty close, and obviously food is a smidge higher on the priortiy scale for him.
Too sweet...

Well Anna you are always talking about how smart the birdies are- I guess confusing Gabe with a bird is natural lol. I was on the phone with a company a few days ago and Zoey piped up "PLAY TIME!"- I replied, "not now, Zoey- I'll let you out of your cage in a minute." the sales rep was horrified- "You locked your daughter in a cage!?" I had to explain that while she is my baby, she does have feathers and yes, must spend some time in a cage from time to time. I think she was relieved but still somewhat confused. At least child protective services haven't been over yet.

That's histerical! I do wonder from time to time if folks wonder what all the screaming is about over here. Either we are murderers or we must have some bratty kids!!!:sadeyes: I wish I could just tell them it's the birds, but that opportunity only presents itself some of the time.

Fortunatly I know all but one of my neighbors, and they've met Syd and know of the others so I don't get strange looks. I leave the room & close the door for other calls, although I do remember one time while having problems with my internet I was talking to a lady and Stella started in at full tilt, she said you must have parrots, my mom has a conure.
I'll let you out of your cage in a minute
I would have liked to have seen the ladies face when she heard you say this :haha:
