After doing a lot of research and talking to a lot of hunters, I decided to try again. I've been told soaking is the key. Not just soaking, but soaking for days and draining and refilling frequently. I took out a pound of ground a few days ago and have been soaking.
Someone told me the best thing to try first is chili or sloppy 'does'. Since Matthew isn't big on chili, I tried the other. It tastes pretty good actually. The soaking helps. Also, they say with ground you want to use a lot of seasonings, so sloppy joes are perfect.
I'm going to have to work on my brain. It keeps telling me, "Bonnie, that's a deer," and that makes it not sit right. But, I do believe Matthew will have no problem eating it!

Good job. Told you to soak it. I'm from Louisiana and the people down here (not me) eat catfish, which scavenge on the bottom of lakes and rivers. That is the only way to get the gamy taste out. It doesn't work for me, but I am allergic to fish so I can always use that as an out.
