I have tile floors in both my ferret and bird room. LOVE it. Stands up to much mopping and beaks and claws. I would go that route. I tried lanolaum (sp?) in my old house and it couldn't take the clean-up routine in the ferret room and I know it wouldn't stand up to beaks. I'd to for tile. I also did a low fume paint.
Oh and for the windows (and the doors) I did a "pet screen" that is supposed to go on I think screen doors to protect them- its heavy duty metal that I bolted over the opening of the window- that's working in the summer (hasn't been tested a whole summer with the birds)- and I did a 'dutch door'- a door cut in half- so the bottom half is closed all the time but the top half is open- but I just framed the door and put that type of screen in the middle so I can see and hear my babies at all times. I'll try to post some pictures soon so you can see. Hope this helps!

PS
I have a M2 and a U2- so big birds that are hard on the room too!

Hi Violet and Welcome:-)
I am one of the "researcher" types here on Happy Birdy so I try to stay up on safe types of things to use in bird rooms. Before i get too far, are your birds going to be in a separate place at the other end of the house as you work on the bird room?
The reason I ask is that there are some types of things that "off gas" fumes that are very detrimental to parrots. For example, if you decided to remove the carpeting and simply replace it with other carpet, new carpet can offgas formaldehyde as well as other toxins.
Naturally, if there are any adhesives needed to put down flooring, the birds need to be far away from any of that.
I had removed old carpeting in a room in my last house and there was a ton of debris under it that included dust and dried adhesive. When I vacuumed the stuff up, I was sure to have my birds at the other end of the house so they didn't breath in any of the dust.
Anyway, I will be happy to come up with some ideas as I know how the setup is that you are able to work in.
Thanks,
Bill
