today bonney took her usual walk around the walled rose garden in our garden.(she cannot fly) , as i am always with her she has watched me picking and deadheading the blooms...today she decided to help and began picking the buds , for me....but then she decided these might be great to eat.

question...will she eat harmful (poisonous) plants???

she tried for the sweetpeas but i stoped her..the roses are not sprayed and are not near the road they are a small garden within a larger one...

She sure will.

Birds raised in the wild and that live in the wild learn from their parents and other birds in the flock what to eat and what not to eat. They pass this knowledged down from generation to generation.

Birds that are raised and live in captivity have no other birds to teach them what is good to eat and what is poisonous. So it is up to us to know EVERY poisonous plant and keep our birds away from them.

Some one might come along and give a link to safe and unsafe plants.

Rose petals are okay.

You can google plants/trees toxic to birds and several lists will come up. I am so glad, Violet, that you have the good sense to ask questions! Good job!

Violet my dear. That made me cry. I can't imagine how it tugs at your heart to share that with us.

I am glad you did share.

Give that Bonney girl extra hugs from all of us on Happy Birdy.

Violet, I could barely read that last post. I am the list wimp. I skip over stuff like that. What kind of bird is Bonnie? I know she is a too, but what kind?

And I just remembered that if you give me an initial, it is you I'll have send a private message to ask what the initials stand for. LOL

Violet, are you from Australia or New Zealand? I seem to remember that from something. The reason I ask is that I have a cousin who lives in New Zealand. He is a musician and is popular there. Have you heard of Eric Johanson?

Hibiscus flowers are safe for her as well. Rose hips are good and they are high in vitamin C, you can also make a nice tea with with these flowers or even dried Rose hips to enjoy with your Bonny birdy.

He is actually my second cousin. He must be so talented. When he was still a teenager, Hollywood producers were asking him to write for movies. I don't know if he ever did it.

I love MMs. They are beautiful. Thank you for taking care of that sweet baby.
