Andy was brought to us 2 nights ago. He's 15 and was in his previous home for 11 years. Apparently he became aggressive with a female. So far he is so sweet. He will step up and loves to fly around the room. He's a fairly quiet little guy. He has a well check up on Friday and is having his beak and nails trimmed--they look terrible.
He came in a terrible little canary cage with 2 tiny perches. He's now moved into a huge cage with perches galore and tons of toys. He seems pretty content.

Please, you must stop sending pics of conures and blue crowns ta boot!!! What a cutie but then again I have a soft spot for them. In is full (thank goodness). Olivia is already surrounded by 3 conures.
What a cutie.

Thanks everybody. He is a sweet little guy, though I don't have conure experience. I have been doing lots of online reading the last couple days.
I think he was aggressive because she was trying to breed them.
Hey Peggy--you can always use another conure, right?

You will fall for the Blue crowned they are some of the nicest conures ever. He will look so much more vivid after a few months of good varied food

He's a rescue and supposed to be for adoption but Lord he's adorable. I keep telling myself I don't need another bird permanently but he's so adorable.

the conures here are blue crown, green cheek and austral. Queen of Bavaria have been reclassified to macaws.
Blue crowns can get loud but are good talkers. You can teach them to talk as a contact call to limit that screaming or screeching. They can learn to sing as well and enjoy it. Anyone who has talked to me on the phone while I have a bird with me usually have heard Maybe (BCC). He will ask "hows your cold, sneeze then say bless you" Our contact call is asking "what does the duck say" and I MUST respond by quacking then asking the question back.
Maybe is also one of two main alert birds (the other is a cockatoo) He sure lets you know if things are not right. Although he might try to strike a bite...it is only a bluff. Otherwise he is very gentle. He is a rehome...belonged to a teenager and was a junk food junkie. I always felt he would be a great bird with an older child as he just loves seeing things and going along for a ride on the shoulder. All my grandkids can hold Maybe and have been able to since they were little. Just like any other bird they can learn tricks and like showing off.
To see more conure behavior go to you tube and type in blue crown conure. There are a number of videos with them in it. Green cheeks are pretty popular also.

Andy went to the vet today for a well check and to have his nails and beak trimmed. He was a pretty good boy and actually let me touch his head and back for the first time. Vet says he is very healthy and great weight. She did say that because he has an open band that she believed he might be an import and due to that would have to be older than the 15 years I was told. She said she didn't think breeders used open bands but I don't know anything about breeding so I have no clue.

A breeder would use an open band if for some reason they had to remove the old one,or they waited too long to band the baby.
Is there a band number on the band?

Thanks for the info. I'm sure there is a number but neither I nor the vet could read it. It's a small round band and even with contacts in I could never see something that small.
I thought after I got him all settled in and could actually hold him, I could get a magnifying glass and try to read it.
