He moves in quickly upon his prey but braces for any sudden retaliation.

She knows her ego has been wounded with this sudden tail attack. She quickly darts for the furthest perch and sits, begrudgingly, pouting over her defeat.

HaHaHa...Peggy Sue doesn't know the meaning of the word bite hard (mind you she has every ability to learn). Still, for the meantime, she's a big wimp. If only she knew how snotty she really could be. But instead, she mostly just squeals for effect.
