View Full Version : Good books to read to birds or songs to sing to them.
I have read The House That Jack Built the past few days and they love it. Leroy (YNA) pins her eyes. Fergie (Scarlet) stares intently at me. Blusher (RFM) tries to tell the story with me and already says, "Jack." I add the sounds of the animals. It has a cat, dog, cow, and rooster, that I can think of.
If you have a book that the birds have enjoyed, please post the title here.
Also, if you have a song they enjoy, please post it here.
Uncle, could you make a sticky of a thread? That way we can check quickly for new ideas. I especially need them with the songs.

Here are two of the seven books I bought for Cloud at the Dollar Store.

Where? You made me feel better by omitting the titles. Or will I feel worse when I see that the titles are there and I missed them.
I am so excited about the upcoming cruise that I can't even be still, much less sleep. I just got inside from drilling wood. :haha:

Does Cloud like them? Are there animal sounds to make in the zoo one?

I hate to reveal my ignorance, especially when I'm a Sentinel; but I'm too lazy to look it up.
What is a "sticky?"

I read every night to my guys. They love Dr. Seuss - I think it's the cadence; Shel Silversteins poems, again I think it's the cadence; Are You My Mother?; we just started plain old nursery rhymes and they go over pretty well. In the daytime I read the paper to them, the back of the cereal box, recipies, etc. They know how to say 'teaspoon' and I always let them say it for me. THey get very tickled, lol.
But I'm afraid that Green Eggs and Ham will always be the number one favorite. Renie my B&G and Dave BFA know about 3/4 of the book and like to say it with me.

Our favorite collection is Where the Sidewalk Ends. Ickle Me Pickle me is a big hit, Where the Sidewalk Ends is big also. Cythnia is good. That one is for my son since he has never taken the garbage out in his life willingly. This quote is something my daughter loved and I embroidered it and framed it when my grandson was born -
If you are a dreamer, come in.
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer . . .
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire,
For we have some flax golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!"
I'm the story teller in the family, got that from my great grandfather, and she says this quote reminds her of the weird bedtime stories I use to tell her.
Anyhow, Shel is a great story teller too and I think they enjoy his poems and tales because I do.
I'm telling you, it's the cadence and how you read to them. My three just love it. I put some good symphony music on every night very low, mostly that which is a bit contemporary and features the piano or strings, and read for 30 min to an hour. It's a lovely part of the day.

And all three of my guys loves music - any kind, but believe it or not they all three love Yo Yo Ma. If he showed up with his cello, they'd just leave me and follow him anywhere.

So if you aren't weird, does that mean I am? Or that you are just not as weird as me? Or because there are two of us that neither of us is weird? And who is Larry and why does he think you/me/us are weird?

I have a 4-1/2 year old Umbie hen named Baby. She is the light of my life - and yes - I do read to her after Dot encouraged me to do so.
Put me in the Zoo is Baby's favorite. She tries to eat the little boy and the spots on the (what-ever-that-animal-is). :smiles:
You can't really do anything to help me anyway. It is between me and my video camera.
They were so excited tonight as I read The House That Jack Built that I got the video camera and taped them. I can't get it downloaded to my computer. I am so computer challenged. Odd, I have done it before. I'm tired of trying. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.
