I am so UPSET right now. I went to craigslist and found a fairly large cage for Cindy, our cinnamon tiel, and I of course asked what happened to the birds that were in it.. The woman told me the baby cockatiel FROZE TO DEATH!!

I'm near hysterics. They left that poor sweet baby by the back door in the cold and it froze! No heated operch nothing!!!

I'm going to start egging pet stores that sell to irresponsible stupid people!! I'm starting a petition for birdy rights! Before you buy a bird you better be able to care for it! I AM SO MAAAAD NOW!! :whip::madd::firemad::mdgrr::angr:

Very often people just DON'T THINK. They do the same thing with their babies & children! So sad when anything dies needlessly for want of a little effort or thought. :crys:

Some people just don't get it! They think a cockatiel or a budgie is just like the outdoor birds and should be left out in the elements. Someone recently left a quaker of all things out on the back porch (day and night in an uncovered cage) because it was too loud and was surprised when it escaped from it's cage and flew off as quakers are known to do. It's really sad. Really, really sad.

Michelle, your quaker was flying around Albuquerque for who knows how long. I'm surprised he didn't freeze or get eaten or starve. I was very sad when no one came looking for him. He's very sweet. My heart always crumbles when I ask people during interviews what happened to the bird they used to have and they respond that it died, as if it was no big deal, as if it was just as replaceable as a burned out light bulb. I hug my baby cockatiels and tell them that they are never going to homes where they are replaceable.

I can't imagine my sweet Tucker all alone with no one to growl at.. Today he was playing for the first time on his play stand and as i stood there going "OOOH PRETTTTTY TUCKER YAAAAY" he was doing the birdy head bop! not the quaker quake, but a full on do tiki and king bennyproud birdy head bop!!! No animal should be allowed to live in a home where theyre replaceable.. I just.. can't imagine after the emotional turmoil that I went through with Tiki someone allowing that to happen. Like Larry, I'm constantly looking at the birds poop. Cindy was most likely left outside as she had spiders in the cage she came in, now she's stopped plucking and is beginning to eat a pellet seed mix. Anna, your babies are amazing i already know, and I can't wait to see the next clutch you have.. I'm so sick over this, and I do wish i could go and put these people in a cage and have them stuck out in the cold!! We are at a point where it's like "well what do I do" If i ever see a birdy outside about to die I'll take it.. I know stealing is wrong, but murder is more so..

as far as the noise level of a quaker, Tucker is not very noisy. he's starting to make more noise and i just laugh.. I adore his call.. it's so obnoxious! I can't imagine anyone leaving a birdy out in the cold because they're loud! it's despicable.

I remember there were times I'd leave my husband's(then fiancee's) house in tears because I knew it would be a few days before I could come back and take care of 'my big Chicken'. Especially after a really bad visit where he needed a bath or didn't have food or water when I got there. I can't even imagine a bird, or any animal for that matter, that didn't have ANYONE that loved it.

I am in tears, from both heartbreak and rage. It would have been all I could do not to tell that woman just what kind of person she was. In fact, I don't think I would have refrained from doing so. It wouldn't help the baby but it might make her think twice about getting another one.
