We are going to Alaska. I am so excited that I had to tell someone.

Larry, will a flash drive hold all my photos or should I take the software for my computer. It is a huge flash drive. I kept every test, worksheet, and lesson plan for Span. I, II, and II for several years on it. Besides, I could zip them, couldn't I? If I zip them, I should be able to hold the photos of all four of us, right? Am I babbling? Well, if you can't tell, know that I am! :haha:

I have one bit of advice for you. Pack some clothes that a 2 sizes to large, cause girl, you're going to need em. Cruises are all about the food and my goodness, there is a lot of it to go around. I have been on two, once with my parents and the other for our honeymoon and let me just say...those are some of the best memories. I hope you have a blast. Oh...and do the fancy dining at night...it's lots of fun!

Dot, wanna borrow my red union suit with the lace trimmed customized holes? It kept me toasty when I had no heat. I wouldn't suggest walking around the deck in it, though.

Dot - you lucky girl.

My wife and I went on a cruise to the Carribean three years back. The food was not so hot - the cruise was okay. And going to the Carribean really didn't interest me... I worked in the islands for over 7 years, so it was not exciting for me.

BUT - to go on a cruise to Alaska - oh what fun.

I suggest to pay the extra cash and get a cabin with a balcony deck. And please oh please - don't get an inside cabin... it will drive you stir crazy.:yernutz::nanana:

Larry, it was $700 per person more to get the balcony. We have an ocean view but there might be a lifeboat hanging blocking part of the view. I can live with that.

Ocean view is nice... expecially when you are going to go on a boat in the water.

Want pics.

My parents went on several cruises when we were growing up. (I think, to get a break from the 5 kids in 10 years). When my Dad passed away in 2001, my mother told us that he had always wanted to take the whole family on a cruise but never got around to it. To honor my fathers wishes, my mom arranged a family reunion cruise to the Virgin Islands on a Windjammer Barefoot Cruise. Twelve of us went and due to a snafoo by the booking agent, we got a complimentary extra night at the end of the week with the entire crew catering to our every need. They also switched ships, from the smallest in the fleet to the largest (83 passengers to 42 crew). For the inconvenience they bumped up our accomodations (a $500 upgrade per room).

We had a blast since we saw the New Year come in. My nine year old nephew got to set off the ships cannon at midnight since he was the youngest on board. We had several digital cameras and my sister-in-law brought her laptop. When we had a break in activities, we downloaded our memory sticks onto her computer, and then deleted the memory stick so we could fill it up again the next day. We took over 3000 pics in nine days.

Our summers were spent in a rented house on the beach in Ortley Beach, NJ. We brought sand from Ortley Beach and had a little family ceremony on the bow of the ship, where we all took a handful of sand and dropped it overboard in his memory.

To answer the first question... you can get 4 gig flash drives very inexpensive. You might also want to check your camera settings and take pics with less resolution to save space.

The second question --- it all depends on how large the women are that you will be taking pictures of. Tiny women pics take less room in a camera than big women pics.

Wouldn't a wide angle lens do the trick?

You are so bad. Either way I should take my software to be safe, right?

I would - I bet you will take tons of pics.

What time of the year are you going???

I spent some time in Anchorage - both summer and winter.

The lack of daylight screws you up in the winter -- but the summers are much worse because it is still daylight at 3 in the morning. Ya just wonder why you are so tired and then you realize ya just can't go by the sun.

Dot, remember the comfortable shoes, you will be all over the ship. What cruise line are you taking, and how many passengers on the ship. I have been on 2 cruises myself and had loads of fun on both, but I much prefered the Mediteranian to the Caribean..... You will have so much fun...

Now who is going to watch the birds?

My family has a semi-annual family vacation. This June is a cruise to Alaska, but my hubby is insistant that we are not going and will not go until we can afford to pay our own way. I'm so bummed.... Oh well I guess there will be the next trip.

I'm going in the spring. I am the wet blanket questioning whether we should put photos of our birds on stamps, so I certainly am not advertising when I will be gone. :haha:

Julie, I have been saving for a long time. I was taught to save, not spend. Our school changing to uniforms was a blessing, and a curse. I didn't buy clothes for eight years, now I have nothing to wear. (Before Larry asks, I outgrew all the old clothes. :haha:)

I'll take one nice pair for the formal dinner and the rest of the time I'll be in tennis shoes, unless we determine we need to buy boots for something.

We are going on Princess with 2000+ passengers. I'm going with fun friends. We go out to eat each week and we have a ball. I have already checked and they pretty much promise us that we will not get booted off the ship, but they wouldn't give it to us in writing. :haha:

My favorite trip was on Princess, the food was MUCH better than on Carnival!

You will have so much fun! Remember to do an adventure or two on your shore days, they are so worth it!

Oh and saving is not the issue, afterall I am an accountant. Its just that paying off school loans do come before vacations for the next several years. Thats life!

We fly to Fairbanks and start four days of land stuff from there. That for me will be the best part. I know someone who actually got to take a helicopter to a glacier and walk on it. Now, how cool is that! On day five we start the cruise that will end in Vancouver, BC. Each day we stop at different places to play. I am so excited I will have to take a Benadryl to get to sleep. :haha:
