The recent spot-light has been on Wanda, her birds, and Anna for giving them a vacation home. Now that the crisis is over - the spotlight now shines on you Michelle and your loved-one Shane.
You weren't asked or encouraged to do what you did. You both saw a need and you raised your hands and said... We will help. And help you did. You worked behind the scenes wanting no recognition or fanfare.
Some don't know the parts of the story that Shane's beloved Aunt died just about the same time Wanda did her first post. Shane was very close to his Aunt and even though her funeral was in Florida, Shane and Michelle stuffed some belongings into their car and headed across country. But before they took off, Michelle read Wanda's posts and said to Anna, "We will be coming back from Florida and we will be going through Texas on our way back home to New Mexico. We can pick up the birds at Wanda's on our way back and take them to you Anna".
That kind gesture might not seem like much, but there is more to the story.
Michelle and Shane are both young and money has been tight. So, the unexpected trip to Florida for the funeral added to their financial worries. And during their trip their car was vandalized. That is why their car is now in the shop getting repaired. And no one has mentioned that it wasn't a mere stop off at Wanda's that they had to do, but a 500 mile detour. I checked it on a map. Texas is a mighty big state. So, with gas over three dollars a gallon, it was more than a little side trip.
Shane drove straight through to Texas. They made that 500 mile detour, picked up all four birds and headed to New Mexico with three birds in carriers and one bird on Michelle's lap. They drove through the night and finally arrived at Anna's at 4 in the morning - with three birds in carriers and one bird still on Michelle's lap.
They were exhausted and exhilarated both at the same time. They helped Anna settle the birds in and headed home.
And then we all heard from Anna - "They're Here!"
It was not Michelle or Shane that told me the tiny details of their story. I do have ways of finding things out... after all - I am Uncle.
You will never hear from Michelle or Shane saying anything about their hardships in this story. You won't hear them tell of the long, hard, grueling trip and the difficulties they had. For you see... this is what makes them who they are - kind, generous, and full of heart.
Michelle and Shane, I am before you on bended knee and bowed head - I say thank you.
You are both young and so much in love. You both have the love for birds. You will find that it is the birds that have a way of weaving the golden thread through your hearts and your very souls. You will be called upon many times in your lives to help birds and those that have them. Walk boldly and proudly through your lives and love each other as you love the birds.
