So, I was ordering return address labels the other day and I found a site where you can upload your pics and personalize the labels.
So... i uploaded my favorite pic of Chicken (my avitar) and ordered 180 labels!
Obsessed? Na!!!!

No I don't think you are obessed. If you have a beautiful bird and are proud to show him to anyone that you send mail to then why not? More power to you!:smiles:

Do you think that is safe? There are rings of bird thieves in this world and you are giving them your address. Not that you would necessarily be mailing them! But, you know what I mean.

I hadn't thought of anything like that. People put pictures of their kids on them all the time. I honestly never thought anything like that. They won't know where I got the pic or that it is a personalized label.

Did you all know you can get postage stamps with whatever photo you want on them. I got a sheet with my first parrot on them. The only problem is, I don't want to use them!

How does everyone feel about the personalized labels? Would you feel safe to use them?

They are stealing from pet stores because they know they have birds. Why give anyone access to the fact that you have what they see as a cash product?

New Trend Of Birdnapping

Some crooks are cashing in by stealing prized pets. It is a growing trend across the country and in Austin.
People are going into pet stores and snatching the most expensive and most popular exotic birds.
Exotic birds can go for thousands of dollars and can be easily sold on the black market.
One local pet store has just recently had five birds stolen. They can talk, imitate, play and show affection.
That could be why exotic birds are in such demand and are being shoplifted.
"Most of these birds are going to go anywhere from $1,000 and up. And even if they only get $500 or $600, it's a quick $500 or $600," said Kathy Sunvison with Gallery of Pets.
"People don't know what to do with them. They see dollar signs. They don't see an actual animal," said Chad Dennis with Gallery of Pets.
Gallery of Pets, a pet store in North Austin, has had five birds stolen, and most of those have shown up on craigslist.
"It just breaks my heart, like it almost feels like a death," said Courtney Dibrell, a bird theft victim.
Dibrell had her baby African grey bird stolen Thursday.
"I wish they would just bring the bird back to the pet store. I mean, no questions asked," said Dibrell.
Dibrell had already paid for the $1,100-bird and was waiting until he was strong enough to take home.
"I couldn't wait to take the baby home from the time I saw it," said Dibrell.
Now, the young bird most likely won't survive.
"It could die, because it just doesn't know enough to eat enough on its own," said Dibrell.
Employees at Gallery of Pets said there are several other local pet shops and bird-breeders seeing the same problem.
"They broke into her house with her and her husband there and stole the bird, and they had the bird on craigslist the next morning," said Sunvison.
And they say you may be surprised by who is stealing these birds.
"This individual looked like my grandmother. I would have never thought that this individual would have attempted anything like this," said Dennis.
Meanwhile, Dibrell just wants her baby back.
"Getting your hopes up for something for a very long time and having it taken from you and being in disbelief," said Dibrell.
If caught stealng a bird, you could face theft charges.
To help crack down, Gallery of Pets said they are investing in high-resolution cameras and upgrading their current security system.

Good grief! Just makes you sick! Grandma or not- put her in prison! The value of the bird should make it some type of felony!?!?! And, if the bird dies, she deserves even more! Absoulutely sickening.

I can't even read this. It's one of my worst nightmares and just thinking about my birds getting stolen makes me sick.
A couple of Mormons came to the door today while I was cleaning the aviary and I proptly told them I was busy...but they were instantly drawn in by the birds and started asking questions. My protective instinct kicked in when they asked "may we come in and see them?" "No," I responded "they bite." (Yeah, wanda's birds bite all right - your heartstrings and then run away with them!) All my mind could think was, don't you even think about stealing my precious babies. The same thing happened once when a door to door salesman came by and wanted to see what I was cleaning. The good news is that we live so close to the highway that a thief would be exposed trying to break in, day or night so I like to hope that would deter anyone thinking about it. Boy the thought just scares the willies out of me though.

Sometimes we get overly worried about things. Yep - there are bad guys in the world - but thankfully there are a whole bunch more good guys than there are bad guys. That is what makes the world go round.
Out where Bonnie lives - not too many people pay attention to a bird in the window... but if it were a cow - ya might want to lock it up for fear some one would see its value and steal it.

I am glad our neighbors all look out for each other and some one would have to be pretty determined to get past the two dogs barking their heads off inside the front door. They even protect us from cars driving by on the main drag about 200' away. Harry helps them by yelling-our watch bird!
