I've heard a lot from owners who say their birds masturbate.

I never noticed that any of mine every did--until this morning. My sweet little female LSC was sitting on her perch and holding onto the end of a rawhide braid that was attached to a chain so that the rawhide braid was over her back, close to her body. She kept rubbing the braid across her back and trembling.

Do you think that is what she was doing?

I don't want any babies. There are too many homeless birds already. But it seems so mean to deprive captive birds of a mate.

My poor baby.

Look on the bright side. Who couldn't use more little rawhide braids?

Just like Stella, all birdies need to let loose some time or another.... Some just do it in different ways.

It looks like I'm going to have to tell Betty about the birds and the bees.

Or maybe she needs to tell me.

My OW amazon is fond of necks as well. He prefers to do this deed with strangers and the telephone mostly, thank goodness, but he "assaulted" me in the car once and once was enough for me.

It's a normal behavior. Unless you have a male present, you won't have any babies. Later on, she may lay infertile eggs and that is a whole other can of worms...

When we were told about the birds and the bees, they never told us where the term "necking" came from. Now we know.:haha:

I have got to stop reading this board after putting the birds to sleep. I keep slapping my hand over my mouth to keep from belly laughing. That "necking" is so true. I actually think Tommie (BFA) is trying to get to my mouth, but I keep turning my head. I only allow a little of this then I move them and try to distract them. Tommie will do it anywhere - my neck, shoulder, knee, arm, her cage, play gym.

It amazes me how they just don't care. The scary thing is sometimes I wish I could be that way LOL. :);)

I realize Betty won't have babies unless there is a male present. I was just saying it's a shame she can't have a mate because I don't want any babies. I guess one could addle the eggs, but that seems mean, too.

I saw on the Discovery Channel one time a piece about a bird that was near-extinct. As far as the photographers knew, this one male was the last one, at least in that area. Their courtship ritual was that the male (this species couldn't fly) would build a nest and then climb, with some difficulty, to the highest place in the area and then call for a mate. He did it every year, and of course, no mate ever came. The call was so hopeful and mournful at the same time. It made my cry.

First off when posting some of the preceeding information there needs to be a spew alert for protection of the computer from alien fluids which are not conducive to the operation of the unit.

Next...if not figured out yet, birds like recreational sex. Not all mating produces babies...it just might be recreational.

Feeling good. My lsc gets to trembling, squating, staring in a daze if I should pet her back. Hormone time I just have to look at her. The back is a very sensual area for birds. Some birds and my macaws have been known to drape things over their back or neck...it just feels good.

A friend has a amazon and goffin both males but consider themselves a mating pair. They have built nests in the sofa, and even made a hole in the bird room wall. they are caged separately but the minute they are out they are together.

Easy
