We had some with our dinner a few nights ago and BatToo LOVED each piece we gave him. He scarfed more than his portion down complete with head bobbing and baby bird handfeeding noises (like the malt-o-meal video). Today I was curious and decided to look up the nutritional value of asparagus. I figured it was probably good for you but didn't realize that it was a super food.
It is high in ALL vitamins and minerals except for vit D and vit B12 and almost has a complete amino acid score all by itself sitting at 93%. It has 70% of your daily value of vit K. I guess BatToo made a good choice in his new comfort food, and we will be sure to prepare it more often.
Our birds (especially, peggy, Battoo, & Bhodi) have also been discovering summer squash, mango and kiwi fruit, all fantastic sources of vitamins and minerals but foods that we previously had little interest in. Even when I have been making goodies out of garbanzo beans I have been using red palm shortening which contains 38% of your daily value if vit E in ONE teaspoon! Wowee! Who needs to take vitamin supplements when we all can eat garbanzo vitamin cookies!
