:hihihi:I wasn't sure where to put this, but I had to tell someone who would be as excited as me!:D
As of 6 am the cage was in Oklahoma City. (2 hours from where I live) This means it will be here tomorrow most likely!!! I will post pics as I take them. From the cage he is in now through the building process and on to the finished product.

I'm a little bummed though, I thought I was going to be off work tomorrow, but I will have to work the 3-10pm shift:mad:. But the hubby is off so if it doesn't come before I leave he will be here to recieve it. :yeah:

How exciting! Do you think Chicken will be wary of it, or anxious to get in it?

Maybe Hubby will have it put together by the time you get home. That's a process I hate.

I love "furnishing" a new cage, though.

I was kinda hoping that very thing lol.

I don't really know what he will think. He was moved into the cage he is in now right away when I got him about 8 months ago. I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself, (I don't know who knows and who doesn't) but this cage is 4X the size of the one he lived in for almost 2 years. And the 506 is even bigger. The main thing I'm worried about is the color difference. His cage I got him in (that we now use as a travel cage) is black and the cage he is in now is black, but the 506 I ordered is Almond, so I guess we'll see!

Evelyn

What kind and what size cage did you order?

I never thought that color might make a difference. I have two white cages, one black and one a blue-grey. I've not noticed that color has made a difference to my birds. In fact, I sometimes switch the birds. I figure being in a different cage is as helpful as new toys is keeping the birds from being bored. None of them seem to mind, and adapt to the "new cage" and know it is theirs, after a day or two.

Here's the link to the new cage.

Current cage is 4ft tall, 2 deep and 3 wide. Looks like this.

This is the frist time I've actually seriously compared the two cages. It makes me sick that he has been in this one so long.

bonnie, i'm so excited for you and chicken. I think he'll love it! My birds play musical cages all the time and it doesn't seem to bother them at all.

Good! I'm SO relieved! I have been kinda worried about moving him again. I know it's not really THAT soon after being moved into this house and the current cage, but I have made so much progress with him I would hate to undo it by getting an unfamiliar cage. I think I know that he is a 'go with the flow' type, but that parront in me still worries about him!

I went through the same stress with Baby and her new cage. You noticed that I said "I".

I set up the new cage for Baby to get used to seeing it. And then I moved her old cage to the side and put her new cage in it's place. I then took Baby on my arm and let her look inside her new cage. And then... well you get the picture. This went on for more than a week... me trying to get Baby used to her new cage.

And then my wife got frustrated with my shananigans... took Baby from me... opend the door to the new cage and plunked her on the perch. Baby looked around for a second or two and went right to her toys. Then she had a bite to eat and some water.

She has been in her new cage ever since with no problems. Daddy doth worry too much.

You'll be suprized. Go back and forth between his old cage and his new cage taking a lot of time to praise the new cage, and put his favorite toys in it.

Carl was terrified when we rolled his new cage into the bird room, well that was till his favorite perch went in ther. He was as happy as I had ever seen him that night prancing around in his new cage. Just make it seem like not a big deal, and he will be in there in a jiffy.

I think Chicken should do find with the new cage. Get it set up with perches, toys, etc... the take Chicken over by it to let him check it out.
I did with Stella, what Larry did with Baby. Once Stella was in the new cage she thought it was a grand adventure! I think they pick up on our stress of hoping they'll like something, so just act like it's no big deal, don't force it you'll know by his actions if he's scared of it.

Can't wait to see the pics! Stella has the same cage only hers is white. Without the bottom grate & drawer you can fit inside!! and BTW... Larry LOVES to see pics of us in the cages with our birds:)))

Hubby works nights and this is his first day off for the week. He said he was too tired to help me put it together, but his curiosity got the best of him and he is in there working on it! Chicken is supervising!

Bonnie~ do you have an update on the new cage?? is it put together? What does Chicken think?? Inquiring minds want to know.

bonnie
01-09-2008, 06:14 PM
You asked!!!
And I'm ITCHING to tell!

Cage is up, and Chicken is LOVING it! I don't have new pics yet, but I want to take one with his two old cages and the new one to show how big it really is.
Honestly, I knew it was big, but i had NO idea until it was standing in my kitchen how BIG it really is!!! I am just SO excited and pleased. Last night I got up to check on him several times and he did fine. There were a few interesting stories that just HAVE to be told so, here it goes!

Story #1
I left the cage door open and the Chicken in the cage. I went into the livingroom as I am used to my smaller cage. If he gets off of it I can hear him clicking on the tile and I know that he is on the go. Well, no clicking and no noise from the kitchen for a little while. SO, I go in to check and Chicken has made his way from the cage, across the cage door and on to the table where he is munching his way through an apple from the fruit bowl. I was SO shocked! So, needless to say, the kitchen is being rearranged.

Story #2

I put the Chicken to bed. I was already worried that he was in a new cage and would have problems sleeping, but then the blanket that engulfs the entire old cage, barely covers the left side of this one. SO, I was worried about that as well. We put his perch he sleeps on in the same place it was in the old cage and I put him on it and shut the door and told him goodnight and all that birdy stuff. He just kept screaming. I thought it kinda sounded urgent, but then I thought that I was just being a worry wart. The screaming continued so I went in to check on him. Well, he was reaching his little leg out to find the perch under his sleeping perch to get down, but it was just out of the reach of that little leg! So I had to open the cage up again to help him down.
This cage is great. I am SO thankful to have friends like Larry and his friend Todd Marcus(of Todd Marcus Birds Exotic). They were SO helpful and I know that without them Chicken would not be in the castle of a cage we have now.

The cage is HUGE isn't it! hehe I kept putting in toys and putting in toys, and it just seemed SO BIG and SO bare! I think Stella's has like 20 toys in there & it still looks like she needs more.
I'll be watching for the :photo: and more chicken stories:)

the second one is the newest cage next to the last cage I bought him with the cage he came in up front.

and the last is the 506 before we moved it into its spot.

Bonnie,
congrats! I'm excited for you and chicken. That is the same cage I have sitting on my back porch in a pile, waiting to be powder coated. It is a big thing isn't it? Todd marcus helped me out with a purchase just today (we ordered play stands that uriel cant destroy and a three tier cage for the tiels) and he is just a wonderful man! Very giving! So awesome to know that chicken has such a nice home. Oh...and tell hubby I love his plaid PJs. My hubby has ones that look just like those but he's too shy to wear them. Awww...

Anna,

I am so glad that Todd helped you out. He and I have become very good friends. He was one of the very few of the cage retailers that I have contacted over the months about the lead in cage paint mess that was truthful with me. I have found him to be honest, caring and one of us. He loves birds and he runs his business with decency and caring.

His website is http://www.thebirdstore.com/

So, now I need some help. I don't know how to cover this monster of a cage. Does anyone have any suggestions that does not include purchasing a $115 cover?

Julie
01-10-2008, 12:42 AM
Bonnie,

Simple, go to a fabric store. There are those fleece blankets where you tie/knot the ends together to make a "completed" 2 ply blanket. Simply tie them together and you could probably make a cover pretty easy for your cutie!

bonnie
01-10-2008, 02:13 AM
Oh my gosh! What a GREAT Idea!!! I know how to make those from scratch!!!

Go to the fabric store and pick out something that you think chicken will like. Then just purchase as much as you will need to cover it! They sell it y the yard and sometimes the width is pretty darn long too. Thats what i did when i used to cover cages...before i got too many birds to cover at night! ;)

I use a very large flat bed sheet, wrap it around the 2 sides & back & use clamps to hold it up there, then I have 2 large bath towels I sewed together that I toss over the top plus a single one I drape over the front. I leave the door uncovered & Stella is ok with that.

That's so true Patty -- I do worry too much.

Like I constantly check Baby's poop. My wife asks what I am doing and I reply - I am checking Baby's poop. And my wife says... well - is she pooping? And I say - yes. The my wife says... if she is pooping then she's alright.

Uhhh???

Sew together two king-size sheets (or blankets if you prefer something heavier). Buy them at GoodWill or yard sale and wash with hot water and bleach and then rinse again with hot water.

I have cozzzy covers for mine and really like them. I would be really careful about what materials you use. Anything with polyester (doesnt fleece have this?) is not digestible and can be very dangerous if they ingest it. I have thought about not covering them at night but Lance and Coke insist on it  Bonnie I am so glad Chicken likes his new castle! How does he like the porch?

Todd marcus is wonderful. I dont know what I would have done without his help.

I feel like it's Christmas all over again...really! I love getting bird toys, buying bird toys, making bird toys. We're going to be stocked up for months! New toys are just so happy. I think my guys are a bit jealous though, hehe. Chrissy wen through and demolished all of her shredder toys in one day. I think she was hoping those toys came for her. LOL.
